I was surprised to find such a fast f/2.8 zoom lens with such a wide range! And incredibly affordable too.

Having that extra reach out to 105mm vs the usual 28-70mm lens would be quite nice.

I feel paired with Tamron's 17-35mm f/2.8-4 (would they match well?) I could have just about all my needs met for a wide range of shooting circumstances. (however a single 20-135mm f/2 would be my dream lens.... but that of course is pure dreaming!)

Has anybody here used the Tamron 28-105mm f/2.8 a lot?

It's a decent lens but not quite in the same league optically as the modern lenses.
Typical Tamron a bit soft wide open , quite a bit of distortion at wide angle.
Electronically the focus motor is a bit steppy and loud. Definitely not good for sound stage work.
The lens also physically extends quite a bit when zoomed. Over all however the combination of speed and range is unmatched....
Definitely usable in the right environment....
I'm pretty excited to have purchased Tamron 28-200. Even more range and adaptall mount to boot.
I'll try to make PL adapter for it. The combination of weight and range (it's not that fast unfortunately) given the image quality being decent (test pending) and the flexible mounting system seems very apealing...;-)
