First and foremost, to those who attended the event, I apologize for the snafu with registration. The first wave was rough, then it smoothed out. Hopefully the free food and open bar for the entire 12 hours offset any frustrations with registration. All future events will be run a little differently. It's impossible to make everyone happy, so with that in mind, I'll go with my gut instinct and stick to it.

Thanks to everyone that came out and made it a great day on Wednesday. Rough attendance estimates put us at around 2500-3000 people throughout the day, almost double last year's event. Wow, pretty incredible!

For many people, the event was a great opportunity to see where RED is heading, with hands-on demonstrations of Epic, new accessories, and the expansion into new ventures for them, such as lighting products. It was also great to see so many post solutions that are supporting RED natively.

Shooting M-X, we realize the toolset has matured. Back at the first Reduser event in 2008, many of us had just received our cameras late 2007/early 2008. We were all learning what it could do, how far it could be pushed. This year, with the launch of the M-X program and the Epic on the horizon, there is renewed enthusiasm, a genuine excitement. And it all starts with Jim, as you watch him doing an Epic demonstration to a group of people standing around a cocktail table. He seems genuinely excited and it's contagious.

We should be less interested in the debate about which camera is better and more interested in what is possible with all of the options that are now available. We should embrace progress, and let competition amongst camera manufacturers be a healthy process towards better, more affordable solutions for end-users.

On that note, it's time to get back to the real world of production and and enjoy some of this new technology from RED. Can't wait to get back and play around with new build of Redcine-X, and I'm very excited to see what plug-in modules will emerge.

Thanks to everyone that helped out with the event, including Brent Carter, Kelly, Hugo, Lia, Jason Ramsey, Corrado, and anyone else who helped along the way. And of course, huge props to Jarred! Also, all of the sponsors who help pay for the event. Be hard to do it without them.

Thanks Steve!

I wish I could have come. There was some anticipation regarding new announcements that might happen at the event, yet, I haven't heard of anything specific for Wednesday. Am I missing something?

Thanks,
Phil

so many new things...would loved to have been there...

If anyone happened to see a Canon 5D charger in their travels, let me know. The guys from Finnerknowsbest.com had one at the event and it went missing.

Thanks!

Is there a summary somewhere of any new info discussed at the event? Any clearer word on the fixed Scarlet?

Thanks Steve for all the hard work that went into organizing the event, it was great!

They had a non-functional prototype of the three scarlet models in a display case. No more news on the Scarlet front, other than it lags behind Epic development only slightly. The fixed lens model looks great, I think a lot of folks were surprised at its size -- larger than they expected. But still compact, a lot smaller than an HVX200. Just amazing for a 2/3" camera with these specs.

They are still targeting late summer/fall for the Scarlet releases. The 2/3" interchangeable with mini-primes looks great too. Those mini primes look amazing.

Thanks Steve for all the hard work that went into organizing the event, it was great!

:iagree:

Seconded!

An exceptional event!

Steve - you had asked from the stage about the duration - would not suggest that you change that at all. Though I did begin to feel for those manning the sponsor demos - they were continually mobbed and began losing their voices after talking for so long. Didn't hear them complain about the attention, but perhaps there might be some accommodation in the future.

About any minor bumps, don't worry - they're expected. Logistically, Wednesday was a significant event with a lot of moving pieces - it was a good team that put it together - applause and appreciation to everyone involved.

And an extra thank you for the "girl next door" set. (Who's concept?) Well done test to show off the EPIC's low light capabilities - I could have easily spent more time there - maybe even missed my flight out a day later given the opportunity.

It was exciting to see how the entire product line is maturing. RED is definitely paying attention - not only to the core products but to every accessory. The attention to detail was apparent everywhere I looked. As was the pride. When Jarred just walked up and handed me an EPIC, his own joy was as unmistakable as was my first impression. Ditto with the person showing off the Gunner modular parts - this event was an excellent showcase of both product and people.

I had so much wanted to see the RED Focus that evening, did anyone else? If so, what did you think? ...

THANKS Jim and Crew for all of the hard work!, Wednesday was AMAZING!, Happy to see it all coming together, so real, to have held Epic in my own hands! Seing the Scarlets in person made it more real for me. A classy event from a company that cares about its users (future Scarlet owner)
