Look.

If you have downloaded and used Clipfinder for free you know that it is one of the best R3D management tools out there.

Hans is a software developer who has limited resources to work on CLipfinder. If you have not already done so then I suggest you should go to his website here:

http://www.daun.ch/software/

and hit the donate button.

To many, this is essential software in the RED workflow. Surely you can take the time to extend kindness and support to this worthwhile endeavour. Le't show Hans that the REDUSER "community" can do their part to help support his efforts.

David

Here is a small list of what you can do with Clipfinder.

-Quickly browse, play, select and annotate clips.

-Judge image detail and sharpness at 100% magnification, even on a laptop in the field.

-Make a subselection from a large set of clips, add comments and save references to the selected clips in a small file. Reopen the file later to view and process the selected clips.

-Quickly open clips in REDAlert for changing look settings, performing one-light colour correction, etc.

-Render clips to QuickTime, DPX or TIFF files using customisable render presets.

-Trigger an Automator workflow with selected clips.

-Quickly import clips into Final Cut by dragging selected clips from Clipfinder into Final Cut.

-Replace reference files or low resolution proxies in Final Cut projects with high resolution, one-light-corrected and fully rendered clips (via XML export / import).

-Prepare a list of all clips in a Final Cut project.
-Create an annotated list of clips for printouts.
-Copy a selection of .RDC directories.

I cannot enough support this support.

Watch this thread where I compare different tools.

I'll just add to Davids list that if you render with Monkey Extract there are noe easyer way to (batch) generate (individual) RSX files for best-light for offline and a technical pass for online than with clipfinder.
... and you don't have to go via RedAlert, you cab do all the color-settings within Clipfinder these days.
Clipfinder is rapidly becoming what we all wanted from the old RedCine.

It is an invaluable tool!

Good point David!

If the Red community wants custom, affordable software we really should be supporting those who make it for us. How much would Avid or Adobe want for something like Clipfinder? Would they listen to our input like Hans does?

My rule of thumb for stuff like this is to test it and use it for yourself, but as soon as you use it on a commercial project, paying for it is the only right thing to do.

... but his site is down...
I hope something good it's going on ;-)
I'm one of the alpha testers of Clipfinder: it's an incredible tool, I like to say it's the Swiss army knife (in case someone doesn't know Hans is from Switzerland) for red workflow. Besides all the Valuable and crucial operations that David said before, Clipfinder can also prints all metadata and comments, this is amazing for the editorial department. When I started to use it in commercial projects, more than a years ago, the big post houses with heavy iron solutions were very surprised how this little piece of software could manage so well the red workflow.
Please, support Clipfinder!

Thanks for the kind words.

My site is back up now (provider messed up my supposedly static IP number).

As for some perspective on how lucrative the donation approach is: to date I have received 59 donations for a total income of USD 2245.69 (minus PayPal charges).

I regret to disappoint Jean-Charles, but I have no plans for creating a PC version. Clipfinder is coded in Apple's XCode/Cocoa environment and porting to Windows would require a total rewrite.

Cheers,
Hans

Please donate to Hans - clipfinder is such a great resource. If you work consistently with red material on a mac its almost inconceivable to NOT use it in some way or another since it does just about everything. Be honest with yourself and consider how much you most likely have spent on far more less frequently used apps and then give to Hans at least a fraction of what it is actually worth - which is in actuality priceless.

Don't be cheapskates, support clipfinder and you are only helping yourself.

Hans,

Any idea how many times Clipfinder has been downloaded?

Sid

Give Hans a chance!

Clipfinder is outstanding software and Hans has also supported our community. If your using Clipfinder, please support Hans, its great value.

Last year used it in a project with 3 Reds, each day around 250G,have to do one light then hands RSX to editing department to process.(Avid)
Under normal situation 2 hours are enough.
A great software!
