  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Allstar A-mount system is available! --with REDONE approved!

Hi Nawaf, please hop over to the Real Name thread to get your username sorted.

Allstar is (understandably) quite busy these days, so I'll try an answer.

When you have the A-mount installed on your RED, you'd need one PL-mount adapter, which would allow you to use the RED lenses, and then you need (at least) one Nikon adaptor to use the Nikon lenses. For speediest swap, you'd need one adaptor for each lens.

ok

best regards

I don't think that the ALLSTAR mount alters the depth adjustment system of the RED One mount. So a collimating device such as the NULL Lens with one of ALLSTAR's PL mount adapters on it should prove accurate. Also, by using the NULL one could compare the various PL adapters to see if there are any variations and then shim the lenses appropriately. Nice match. With the Nikon version of the NULL (coming soon) you could do the same for Nikon lenses. Then all your lenses would definitely be dead on when swapping between them in the field.

Thanks Mitch, with the much shorter flange for the nikons I thought it had to somehow be mounted way back thus removing red's back focus adjustment neck... but thinking about it... it certainly wouldn't have been officially approved if it did so... :-)

Allstar,

This looks very interesting, but the video is a little confusing. There are three things in the video?

A-mount - this is the part that mounts on the camera

F-adapter - this is installed on the Nikon lens and allows me to mount Nikon lens to the A-mount

PL-adapter - this is connected to the A-mount and allows me to use standard PL mount lenses

Is that all correct?

Do all the adapters have proper FFD so I don't have to change FFD as I go from Nikon to PL lens?

How soon will you have the BNCR adapter ready. If FFD stays correct for PL, BNCR, and Nikon, I want this!

Mahalo,
Dusty

What you mentioned are totally right Dusty.
FFD stays correct for all kinds of lenses.
and BNCR adapter needs about one month.
thank you!

Thanks Martin! what you posted here is correct.
"My time is limited by my nation" right now. I've been hoping that I can finish all of these works soon.

Allstar,

Is it possible to make a Nikon (f mount) adapter more like you PL adapter so I just have to buy one and just mount Nikon lenses like normal? I know this won't be as nice as your current F-mount adapter and won't be positive lock, but it would be a good alternative for people who just need to quickly put on a Nikon lens every now and then.

Dusty

if you like so, P+S IMS system fits what you want.

wow EF mounts too?!?!!??!?
How are you going to control iris???

FANTASTIC NEWS!

I just thought that I have to give up EF
I didn't want to control iris in the beginning, and just wanted to make EF adapter for other lenses to convert. However, I found out that its size bothers me a lot,and without iris control it isn't much helpful. So last night I decided to give up.
Sorry! everybody.:emote_headwall:

A-mount system keeps RED's adjustment system. And I am designing a kind of back focus-adjustable lens (with PL/a/F mount) . It can project charter on senser, so you can use it in any place.

Nice... Good news @allstar

Great work! I would love to order your system because of the flexibility, but I need G lens iris control, are you planning to implement this soon? Otherwise I may have to go with the Optitek.

G lens iris control is absolutely going to make ASAP, but I will make it on adapter. In other words, you`ll need to take lens off before adjust iris. I know it isn`t a good design but it`ll cost least. If you really want to get native iris control, maybe wait for my rehousing lens.
A mount could attach different type of lenese, not only a solid F mount.

As a current ProLock user, I'd really encourage an externally accessible iris control, even if it adds cost. Removing the lens to change aperture seems impractical on a shoot, and I already own lenses that don't have iris rings of their own.

ALLSTAR, as I look at it, the best way to use your adapter system is to purchase these varius mount adapters and leave them on the lenses. But that means that the rear lens caps will no longer fit on the lenses. Are you going to offer A-mount rear lens caps?

To answer your question, He sends adapter with their own rear cap. You can see the one i got with adapter.
