  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Why not make CCD a sensor / module option for the DSMC?

"Being a working Pro rather than a Fan Boy I have a different perspective to many here.."

Just pure abuse. The hubris is phenomenal.

Had I missed the release of the first Epic's?

So that was a serious question?

Given the thread title, the known current target date for the Epic, your regular participation here, etc.., you ACTUALLY were honestly asking if you had missed the Epic release?

As Seth and Amy used to say... "Really?" That wasn't actually a small editorial on your part but simply an honest inquiry?

Wow. If so, you miss much more of the conext of what's going on around you than I thought...

Or, you like to make snide passive aggressive remarks and then defend them as honest inquiries.

If it's not a rude question, why do you publically display a website address that nobody can access?

Yes, my laptop runs on Vista, updates are free.

I've been stretching out the PC update process at work for as long as humanly possible so we don't get stuck with @!$#!?!! Vista for the next six years or so:furious3:
In all my years I have never seen such an incompetent OS, and I started with DOS 3.3! Even DOS 4 pales into insignificance...

Might I suggest that some of these threads seem more of a waste of valuable time than constructive criticism?

I'm not sure if I'm the only one, but sometimes it is dismaying to see RED employees spending their time getting caught up in (what seems to me), silly games.

As soon as RED puts to rest a "but you promised" issue, the folks finding fault just move on to some other issue. In the end, I suppose it only makes the program stronger, but sometimes I wish the RED team would realize they don't have to defend every accusation made on these forums...

just my perspective.

I didn't say I was surprised at this. In fact, I applaud it when it is constructive, which is most of the time.

It's just a shame that certain people in a very small group repeatedly take advantage the generosity of the RED Team by continuously making passive aggressive comments just to get a reaction. It's sad really.

It is sad especially considering we as "professional" in our industry should at least reciprocate with mutual respect to those expending the effort to being us new and affordable tools. Criticism is necessary but the kind of smug badgering is really childish. Not something very becoming of a fellow professional.

I totally agree. I'm incredibly new to the forum, but have found that the discussion and debate help new or prospective Red users a great deal. I've also never seen a company that so willingly connects with its market, offering far beyond simple informative and promotional posts, instead opting for genuine discourse about the merits of the products and the developments for the new products.

There comes a point, however, where common respect for fellow users seems to have been thrown out of the window in favour of smug beratement of a users opinion… or indeed downright insulting to the point of self-congratulatory boasting.

I might not feel seasoned enough to comment on particular technical facts, instead relying on the experience of others to help me along my way with maybe the odd question or two – But I can certainly spot bad etiquette, and to be honest it diminishes any credibility that such people have both in this forum and as a professional.

well i have had about enough of stephen for now...

I think Stephen was confused into believing that we couldn't offer 4K at 60fps as we originally advertised. Truth is... we still can. All the pipes are laid in every camera for this option. What is needed is:

1. Some engineering to be finished (since no one ever ordered one)
2. A RAW port that replaces the CF module. Due to the complexity of the connection... any change needs to be done at the factory.
3. A fiber cable.
4. A recording unit capable of ingesting uncompressed RAW (almost 2GB per second). Like the Codex box.

We haven't put a price to the system since we have no orders. But we are all ears. Remember that EPIC does 5K at 100fps to newer RED CF cards and RED RAM... which is why we think it is unlikely that anyone would want the RAW Port conversion.

BTW... Stephen is welcome to post here again.

Not everyone feels the need or requirement to showcase their work publicly. You have gone out of your way to tout your professional endeavors on almost every post. I have looked at your reel and am not sure why you feel entitled to represent what professionals are doing or how they feel about RED. I don't know any of my comrades who are using a 1944 Mitchell to do client work and bragging about it.

What is it you want besides attention and a rise, Stephen? You make me miss Michael Bravin.

Actually I ordered RAW port with my camera but after talking to Graeme and seeing his work on REDRAW–RAW processing, I concluded that there is nobody that can beat him on this job for say 10 years to come:-)

So I changed the order from REDRAW port to some extra accessories instead. Well, RED RAW PORT would be picking up the dust now and $4.5K would be wasted. I think it was the price for it back in 2006.

If anybody will process or debyer REDRAW better that RED in the future then I will consider:-)

I put down a deposit ($950) on the RAW port when I first ordered the camera. But it quickly became clear as the RED program progressed that the RAW port was not the answer. Being tethered to a RAID the size of an under-counter refrigerator or a super-expensive Codex recorder just didn't seem that appealing the more I thought about how limiting it would be. Not to mention how much money all that would have cost to set up...
