without criticizing the release of the iPad - there's another good thread for that... http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=40415

let's brainstorm about iPad apps that we would like to see - I have a buncha friends who program for iPhone/iTouch apps - and can send on the suggestions. I'm sure there are people here, like Jeff, who also program for I-apps. Let's give them some good ideas.

i-Apps that people like that already exist:

Screenplay
Hitchcock
Timelapse Calculator
iSlate
Photoshop Mobile
iSee4K

I'm sure that I'm missing a bunch -

But what kind of apps would we like to see in a 10'' delivery system, using the Ipad hardware specs?

I turned out all the lights in the garage so it was pitch black... really. Then I lit the chart with my iPhone and free app called "Just Light"... not very bright. You can download it yourself and do this same test. Don't cheat... you need a pitch black room.

Hehe...

Sort of silly but hey, maybe a version for the iPad that would have user selectable color temperature?

An application for <tagging> shots to the screenplay while shooting.

The app holds the screenplay in Final Draft .fdx format - this is an XML which is also supported by ADOBE STORY - which is quickly growing into an excellent screenplay authoring and breakdown tool.

The app also lets you create a "paper cut" - which is a "planned edit" against the script - which could display a visual representation of suggest coverage based on that paper cut.

The app will then display the actual coverage shot - as it is shot and tagged.

Touchscreen icons let you tag where a shot starts and stops against the page. Timecode over bluetooth - and ideally some way of signaling the iPad when you start/stop recording. (think http://www.horita.com/pocketPA.htm)

Touchscreen icons for shot type (CU, MCU, etc.)

Drop down menus to quickly tag which character elements are in the shot.

Touchscreen icons to tag "moments" and to rate takes.

Ability to export the XML.

An accurate timecode slate.

It would be nice if you could do jam-sync via bluetooth or WiFi. Do those protocols give you millisecond resolution that is accessible from the application layer? (I get the feeling that the hardware could do it, but various intervening software layers were written by people who never thought about hard real-time applications)

Been in touch with these?

I know they're entering a new stage this spring with serious partners. But I think the establishing of partnerships put a temporary lid on things for them.
The logging app is functioning very well as it is.
The pregrade thingy has a very nice momentum.
I'll probably dive more into the rest this spring.

If you want, I can keep you posted as it develops.

I talked to them at IBC too. Emailed afterwards about joining the beta programme but got no reply.

Final Draft full version for only $29.00. With built in scheduling and budgeting that is linked scene by scene, so that when I delete a scene during a re-write, the budget and schedule automatically update and reflect it.

You need to be able to assign salary requirements to each character based on SAG scale or a custom quote for top talent. I want words like "explodes" or "Flies through the window" to automatically trigger a budget item like a stunt or effect and allow me to assign a cost to that item automatically as I write. There's huge opportunities in software design to generate efficiencies in the production process that will increase quality while lowering costs. Its never too early to worry about budget.
