I caught this trailer in 3D in front of Avatar and man, it looked awesome! That opening shot was very cool to see, because it gave me some idea about what astro timelapse looks like in 3D. Even that simple shot of the astronauts in the chairs at :35 tells you that this was shot on an entirely different format than what we are used to. Resolution is irrelevant once you are downsampled all the way to 1080p. It's the massive negative/format that gives this effect.

I bet this Hubble 3D IMAX will make a ton of money, as people are now very hungry for spectacular IMAX 3D after Avatar. And this will be true 15-perf IMAX. :drool5:

I cant even imagine how big of a rig a 15-perf 3D I-max camera is.. If theres a place to haul that thing, it would be in a zero gravity atmosphere thats for sure!

Dude, that is way too much camera. A digital alternative seems like really the only thing to bring into that kind of environment. Someone likes a challenge.

When you consider that public support keeps our space program open for business, spending $3 million on a camera that will shoot images that will dazzle every taxpayer that sees it is a worthwhile investment.

NASA should underwrite Jim's 28K Epic 617 development and fly the damn thing into space before the manned space budget gets cut.

We saw Avatar last weekend for the 2nd time in a "fake" Imax theater, basically a converted multiplex house. Sat on the 2nd row to get the more immersive effect of the larger "real" version. The Hubble trailer was spectacular.
Want to see Avatar again this weekend in 2k widescreen while the memory is fresh to see how the image quality compares.
