  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I understand the 8x fixed lens is a servo lens, so my question is whether there will be some way of knowing at any given focal length exactly what focal length one is using. Say, starting from full wide (whatever that happens to be), I zoom in to frame a shot: will I be able to determine the precise focal length of an arbitrary zoom (besides the obvious full wide-angle or telephoto)? This is important data for several types of post work.

Regards,
RQ

The lens info is saved in the R3D metadata.

Will the Redmote PRO control focus through the electronic Canon mount?
And I tried to calculate the price for a production package working with the s35 interchangable. If you already own the lenses it would be something like:

Body - 7000
Touchscreen 5" - 1200
PRO Redmote - 1750
Side CF-Module - 500
Side Handle - 950
Base Plate - ?
Battery Module - 1750
Electronic Canon mount - 500
CF-Cards (4) - 1400

So a total of $15 050 lenses and base plate price excluded

Is that correct? Am I missing something?

you do not need the side handle if you already have the red mote and battery module so

15050 - 950 = 14100

you could always get the 1000 dollar battery module rather than the more expensive one so subract 750 and get 13350

add 300 for the scarlet module adapter which you'll need to use the battery module

yeah so looks like 13,650 before lenses

Is the side CF module user changeable?
Lens thread diameter on mini primes?

it is optional if you mean you want to take it off and use another recording method

no word yet on mini prime lens diameters

Any chance on some recent Scarlet 2/3" or Fixed footage?

they don't have any of the cameras working yet. Jarred already said they wont have tattoo working for some event in early january

You can't imagine how difficult a trick it is what we are trying to accomplish.... there is just no way. Our engineering team is all world, but the magnitude of complexity is hard to imagine. Most everything worked with the ASIC on the 1st try... but a couple of things didn't. The good news is that it is a metal spin and not a full re-spin... which could have set us back several months. Everyone, starting with me, wants all this done yesterday. My reputation, along with the whole RED team... is on the line. But in the end, we will be judged by what we put out, not how long it took.

I do, I know of somebody that developed revolutionary processors and a revolutionary way of designing chips (which I sent some investment information on). The first chip took way more reruns then desired, and saw this multiple times, before they got it down pat, years and years of waiting. Now they can more easily move design between new processes, first try.

Every major chip design usually also goes through this process, and usually delays. And this stuff is a needle in a haystack, except you also design a machine from the haystack.

I suppose that it is impractical to use a imagination technologies very low powered general purpose GPU design (or other low power consumption GPU) + control processor instead of an ASCI, because of the processing requirements of red code.

Am i right in thinking that if the s35 Scarlet brain is ordered with an option mount then that would be included in the brain price, forfeiting the PL mount

Maybe?

What I meant was if I can remove it myself or if I have to send it to RED for them to perform the removal. I can see times when I could need one and times when it would be in the way. If it's user removable that would be the best option. But the side module on the Red One is not.

it looks like it is removeable via hex wrench

the only thing that needs factory adjustment is the sensor

You mean besides the redmote? They haven't as far as I know. RED won't jump into a market unless they can deliver the quality/price ratio that others have missed.
That's why they avoided the matte box market until recently because RedRock had just released theirs last year. It's been a while now and the RR's quality is pretty bad (being an owner I can vouch for that) so RED have decided to sweep in.

The side module is user removable.

...
The 8X fixed package deal is a up-and-shoot package, and unfortunately by announcement time it was still a little too early to lock down which option we can include for power so we left it off the list for now.. don't worry, we will let you know soon.
...
my pleasure.

So you mean to say that the fixed package is even more attractive as in you will also get either a side handle or a battery module.

I just assumed that because there was just a battery mentioned you could insert it directly into the fixed brain, and that apart from the zoom lens was the reason the brain was bigger then the interchangeable brain.

And with the fixed being an amazing T2.6 for that price I can't imagine anybody except for ppl having 2/3" compatible glass wanting to buy the interchangeable.

The fixed is just a really nice way to step on the red wagon ;) next step scarlet s35 with 2 red zooms and just keep on expanding from there.

What a huge size difference between the Scarlet and Nikon. It's amazing how you guys were able to pack so much power into such a small package.

Yes indeed. How tall is the equipment rack that the camera must be tethered to in order to operate?

:-)

(It wasn't very long ago that one had to do that to shoot HD).

Hi Guys,

I still need to know is Scarlet interchangeable able to use a PL lens mount and if it comes with one or is an option. its really important to us.

Also will there be a B4 mount option of should the B4 to PL adaptor be used. Is there a dedicated power out for lens power or can there be a cable adaptor option for power to B4 lenses.

thanks,

Dave
