Regarding wifi; will there be an API available for camera interaction? Or, at least, some form of network protocol documentation?

Yes. It'll be very very easy to implement. Can't say more than that (so don't ask :).

Python Module? :D

I'm hoping for a simple RESTful web service API.

I love Python but only having a Python module would preclude me from coding a Red iPhone app. :)

Either way .... this is seriously cool stuff. I can't wait to get my hands on this API and start hacking away!

Hmm, just throwing another thought out there:

How a bout a redmote like module but for audio control, with appropriate pots and sliders?
As long as you could get high enough quality for monitoring and the latency was low enough this could act as a field mixer/monitor for the sound man but with the benefits of no cables attaching him to the camera and the sound being recorded on camera in sync so no need to sync in post.

I may not have thought this through well enough but does it sound like a good idea?

Also, if they ever plan on just doing a straightforward audio module (which would be cheaper than the I/O or Pro I/O modules I would hope) could Red ever add the ability to record more than four audio channels? It would be nice to have sync sound straight out of camera with more than 4 channels when you need it (say situations where you need to use a lot of radio mics or are recording a live band etc.)
If the brain can't record that much data directly - due to data rates or whatever then perhaps a sound module with it's own recording media slot - this would be better than having an external recording because recording start/stop could be controlled by the camera and it could be all in sync with appropriate metadata and filename relationships to assist in effortless linkup and sync in post.

Any thoughts?

have a question.. Im getting a red one after december... will i be able to send it back when the epic upgrades are available for a censor upgrade..also when i have the sensor upgrade is it just the sensor upgraded or do i get all those nice features like 4k at 125fps and redcode 250 ? thank you

Question: What is the Official RED stance on buying a used RED ONE Today? If I buy a red one that was purchased before OCT 30th does it qualify for me for stage 2 or 3?

If you buy a RED ONE today, you only qualify for stage 4, buying the brain for $28,000, but you can trade your RED ONE in and get $17,500 off. You don't get the free modules of stage 2 or 3.

EDIT: Either the message above was edited after I replied, or (more likely) I suffered a total brain fart and missed that you were asking about buying a used RED ONE, and I thought you were asking about buying a new one from them today. In that case, I believe I got it right, but for a used RED ONE that was purchased before Oct 30th, with proper ownership transfer done with RED, you should qualify for stage 2 or 3. Jarred, please smack me if I'm getting it all wrong. Again.

The Sensor Upgrade for the RED ONE cameras to the MX sensor will not enable the RED ONE to record at redcode 250, or 125fps.

Looking at the new Canon and Nikon mounts on the Epic, they seem to have a collar that turns. Do they lock down like a PL?

yes.. its a double lock system. You put the lens in and click turn it like a normal Canon/Nikon mount, and then you turn the external lock-ring to lock everything nice and tight.

Just a quick one Jarred - will the Canon mount support the EFs lenses? They are specifically designed for S35 (they won't fit on any FF35 EOS body) and they go deeper into the mount. My favorite by far is the EFs 10-22 rectilinear - I can't live without that lens...

Cheers,

Peter

Not true it says you only qualify for any of the stages if you bought before Oct 30 2009
