October 30th Announcement Feedback

I have a prurient interest in what percentage of Red One owners are taking the various Epic options. Does anyone know, even anecdotally from colleagues and acquaintances? I suspect the flurry of activity, transactions, and direct discussions regarding this are the reason for the on-topic silence here.

Someone needs to develop a configuration adaptable on-set rest/caddy for the Epic cameras and brand it the "Epic Rack". I imagine such a product could attract a lot of attention at NAB with a big enough banner and the right booth babe.

Eagerly awaiting the Scarlet annoucement,
Tom

I have asked this long time ago, but with 161 pages it is difficult to see if it was answered. So I will try again. Will the Epic-x be able to use ETTL flash to control the flash exposure through the lens? This has been standard for more than 10 years in photography. I don't see anything about that mentioned in the 30th announcement.

I can see that Epic might work well in studio environment with strobes synched to the camera. But how well it'll behave in standard flash photography in a place with a bunch of photographers blasting their flashes? Will it be suited for journalism photography?

Thanks.

Just a quick observation for myself . I never really looked deeply into Scarlet because it was a different price point (just lower) but the magnitude of interchangability is pretty awesome (ok I was not a big fan of Scarlett, just cause our kids can afford Epic X - so why go lower? And seriously never thought about getting one, except for the kids) - Well this really kick started my interest in Scarlett, the interchangeability of these modules. (WOW).

I'm so happy for you! Can I have 4 Scarlets for Xmas?

Hello Red Team

I am also wondering if once we upgrade to an Epic whether stage 2 or 3, will the epic and all of the accesories be covered under a new 1 year warranty., from the date of shipment?

If so, that is so awesome, so much value, love it!

If not please let me know the conditions of the warrenty

funny.. somehow i have just learned to adapt... i couldn't imagine composing with my left eye.

Lefty here too.

I'm a little nearsighted (-2.5) but usually just wear one contact in left eye so I can see distance but still read easily with right eye (opthalmologists call this monovision and your brain deals with it pretty well after awhile).

So I shoot with right eye in viewfinder with the no contact and adjust the VF diopter but can still see other stuff with the left eye that has a contact.

This is probably a no brainer but I had to ask since I don't own a RED:
as far as stills work on the upcoming models is concerned
(and the sorting potential for mess); is there a "stills folder"
type of file setup that contains a user predetermined number of
frames each time the "shutter release button" is pressed?
That is to say, I press the release and get "48" frames
(or whatever predetermined number of frames I set)?
Each individual set of "48" exposures resulting in a new "stills" folder
(represented by a thumbnail)? Or will it be a case of shooting
and viewing in a film sense only?

That is to say, during motion capture for STILL'S frame grabs rather than more conventional single frame stills shooting.

Good question! I was wondering the same myself. That be really good with video as well. I've been wondering about upload times. It would be nice if, with the 1.8 ssd, you could just drag and drop clips onto your computer, which would most likely make it faster than the realtime upload of tapes. Like on the jvc hd100 or newer if you have the harddrive you can just drag and drop your clips, from their folders, into new folders on your computer, pretty quick

do you mean all your existing accessories or are you talking about new accessories you purchase?

I think the first number is what YOU can see and the second what NORMAL people can see. 20/400 means YOU would have to stand 20 feet away from an object that NORMAL people can see at 400.

:attention9ha:

Then again, maybe I'm completely wrong and losing my mind (as well as my sight.) :willy_nilly:

...I think I got it confused. I thought the first 20 was near-sightedness and the second number was the far sightedness. Either way when I take my contacts out both of my eyes can barely see much of anything. Just blurs and shapes.

Hey Jarred!

I am wondering about the mounts. If I understand correctly a PL mount comes standard. I presume that those who are aiming for Scarlet s35 (like me) will most likely use Nikon or Canon lenses. We would need to spend $600 more for the nikon/canon mount and the PL would just lay around being covered with dust. As a suggestion: maybe you could let people choose the mount that would come with the brain at the time of deposit/purchase, and those who need more mounts could pay the extra cash. We would really appreciate it!

Daniel

As for me, I intend to purchase the cinema 2/3" Scarlet when it is available. BTW is there any news on the availability dates that I missed?

Nothing really solid about scarlet, I imagine that will all be said on the 30th of November.

I don't know why I did not remember that posting from earlier. Thanks.

.

It seems that he is talking about the new gear.
And that off course will be covered by a warranty.

and a follow up question: could 24 (or whatever #) of those frames be from BEFORE the shutter was pressed? SO you're shooting something and a key event happens and you click the shutter and you've captured frames from both sides of that event. Like pre-record in motion shooting.

AND....can you shoot at 100fps or any "off speed" framerate?

Any offspeed rate and prerecord is essentially what you described.

Will the Touch LCDs have any features built in? Like say Anamorphic Squeeze? The Epics list it as a feature, but not the scarlets. Less expensive LCDs have a desqueeze option will the REDs?
