haha thats weird my friend and i do all of our projects together and we some how we both shoot that way while also being right handed haha pretty odd i guess

I think I remember reading somewhere that the Left Eye is the best for composition - it has to do with the left and right sides of the brain. Seriously.

actually, this is not true. visual information from each eye is divided and a portion of the information is conveyed to both sides of the brain. :jacked:

looks like this thread is careening out of control and off topic. perhaps a new picture or teaser regarding future announcements to get us back on topic?
:patriot:

Since we can't decide which eye to use...

I don't think dominant hands and dominant eyes are that related. I am left handed but "right eyed", however I bat, golf, play tennis etc right handed. Goofy footed for surfing, snowboarding, or skating. And I am ambidextrous on a black board...?!?!

will my current LCDs and EVFs work with it?

Nobody answered this second question of yours Dale.

Yes, RED has confirmed that the current RED EVF and RED LCDs will work with Epic and Scarlet

I'm right-handed but was born with a right eye that's not quite as strong as my left, so I've always used my left eye for operating. Used to get a real crick in the neck after a day of handheld. I got a special eyepiece for my Aaton years ago and always found a way to make adjustments for that extra inch or so of travel to get clearance for the rest of my head when squeezing in for left-eye viewing. It was nearly impossible on old film cameras like Mitchells, ARRI 2C or ARRI-16S without a special little periscope. Our world is definitely right-eye centric.

Sometimes techniques are born from danger levels...

When using an EVF I've always alternated between using each eye periodically through a shooting day - when shooting non-risky subject matter. But when shooting close-up sports action, or any other subject matter involving close proximity where the possibility exists of getting hit, like all sports shooters learn, its right eye to the EVF and left eye open and watching peripherally for danger. If using an LCD in those risky situations its continuous quick glances between the LCD and the subject.

Yeah that would probably be the downside of the left eye shooting, when you open your right eye for periferral, your camera is right in the way haha. More abstructed view and doesn't help as much as right eye shooting with your left eye open. LCD comes in handy for that though haha.

The irony here is that I am right-handed, but I always compose with my left eye when I use DSLR. Many of my friends have noticed this and laugh about it (in a good way)...

 Peter

Me too. So it just leaves the question... will the touch-screens work with left eyes?

I'm right handed but left eyed. Airsoft and photography though retrained me to prefer right eye. All in all I think everything except for handedness I'm a leftie. I think my arms just didn't get the message.

Not that unusual, as you can see by responses here. Eye dominance is not always linked to handedness. I was left-eye dominant for many years, but as my vision has changed over the years, I'm now more comfortable with my right eye. The right is just a tiny bit sharper than my left... My eyes are not what they used to be, but the eye doctor tells me that I'm still a bit better than 20/20, so there's nothing they can really do to "fix" me. Getting old sucks and I'm not old yet.

Same here. Childhood amblyopia — I wore a patch over my left (stronger) eye through the first grade.

Same deal, I'm left eye'd. They had me doing all kinds of crazy stuff, never had my wear a patch. Had lasik done and has really helped, but still no where near as good as my left eye. I'm like 15/30 or 15/25 now. I was at the worst time 20/235 if you can believe that. Go left eye users! :cheers2:

Also left handed...yikes for hand held for me.

It is a very easy change.. and frequent changes should be no problem.

Thanks for the clarification.

Does that mean I can switch between a Canon 17mm tilt shift lens for perspective correction, a Voigtlander 125mm macro lens (either Canon or Nikon mount) for, well, macro shots, a Nikon 14-24mm G zoom for wide angle coverage, Leica R 90mm Summicron with a Canon adapter for talent close-ups, a set of regular cine primes like RPP and an Angenieux 10:1 HR zoom for telephoto on the fly?

It's a good news. That's exactly what I need.
