  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

In case you missed it ...

I'm pretty sure 90% of the folks trying to absorb the 30th announcements missed the features of the new 1707 RocketCine-X build.

So ... let me just emphasize the following:

* Avid AAF/MXF output
* ALE output
* BWF Reading
* BWF AutoSync
* AV sync fine tune tab
* Audio playback
* Audio playback channel selection
* PsF output formats added
* Burn Ins
* More Cropping/Scaling options
* Added more Fit/Scale options
* Manual BWF add to clip

MXF and auto-sync BWF in a Rocket-enabled app is just HEAVEN.

Hey Mark,
Can you elaborate on BWF Autosync please, just better explanation of how it works please? This feature was incorporated as well in Redcine-X also correct.
Thanks in advance!

Take the audio files from the sound department - copy them to the the system, or just mount a drive that has them on - and as long as the timecode was jam'd (to the master clock with is 99% of the time coming from sound dept.) RocketCine-X will instantly find which audio file matches which clip and it syncs them. Now, you can render media for editorial with the production audio - not "scratch" audio.

Thats amazing.

I assume that you will have to treat each day as a separate project for the syncing then so there are not similar TOD Timecodes within different clips? (Similar to FCPs Sync N Link)

That's pretty much what I figured but didn't want to assume. Have you had a chance to test it yet? That is a total timesaver and a must have for heavy feature work. I could have used this on the last feature I worked for sure!

It will be very nice - still testing some of the workflows - especially with 8 track mono, ISO and mix tracks and ensuring that the metadata is tracked in editorial. even though audio is full quality - sound post folks still want to have access to their original files when needed. I do like the pullup and pulldown options - especially in scenarios where there was a "misunderstanding" on set as to edit rate used in post.

It's all looking good. Of course, I love the native MXF/AAF support...

Yes. We beta tested the build prior to release - the first time I saw the auto sync and then created MXF directly - I almost cried. It should be noted that this "flavor" of MXF drops right into the AVID bin.

Wait a minute, its not DNxHD MXF that needs to be imported and takes two days and more drive space?

Is this new feature in REDCINE X as well or just RocketCineX? This is HUGE!!!! I didn't even realize it did all of that and made MXF DNxHD files ready to go like that. Wow, good post Mark and glad I asked for details and didn't just assume it was of mild importance! Finally, an Avid workflow that makes practical sense!

Only RocketCine-X at the moment - but Deanan posted it would be in REDCINE-X soon ...

I can't wait for these to both become the same app. I much prefer RocketCine at the moment from a usability standpoint.

Mark how do you deal for Avid MXF stuff regarding the gamma?

I mean do you set your monitor for 2.2 ?

Considering that MXF stuff can go to a Mac or Pc....

thanks

So, I just did a test in the new Redcine X build and exported a clip at 720 DNxHD 60 MXF. REDCINE X exported an aaf Metadata file which I imported and exported a .mxf file. I imported my aaf metadata file first into my bin and put the MXF file into its proper folder "Avid Media Files", "1". It worked like a charm, no transcoding, just instant gratification with all the metadata intact ie, source timecode of the clip.
I don't know about the audio sync but looks like RED did get this feature into the new REDCINE already and its awesome!

I am just curious if anyone has went through any testing on the audio syncing within Rocket Cine X or Redcine X? The versions I am running are: RocketcineX Build 1707 and RedcineX Build 44.

Once in the AV folder the Auto Search button doesn't really seem to do anything. Is there a certain folder structure you should have before importing your video, so Rocket can search for TC within your audio files? Or does it really look at the TC? ( I don't see that displayed anywhere when in AV Sync... )

Also when I use the Set Audio File tool. After importing any audio that is 24 Bit it seems to play back o.k, but files that are 16 Bit sound very distorted and staticy.

Cheers,
Jesse

Do the audio form the File Menu (AUdio) and select the folder with the BWF files in it.
