Forgive my ignorance but I have only just begun with the Red One and Redcine. Today I downloaded the QT plug in for FCP and then the Redcine.(Maybe I did them in the wrong order) When I exported a clip to the desktop from Red Cine (why does Redcine, change the name of the clips?) I then went to FCP and opened the Log and Transfer window. However, when I click on the 'add selection to queue' or 'Add clip to queue' nothing happens. No clips from either the desktop or hard drive. If I try to drag the clip from the desktop into the log and transfer window I get a message saying
"RedMag.mov" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media."

It just seems as if nothing is being recognized.
I would appreciate guidance here.
Much thanks,
Steve

Steve, the Final CUt Log and Transdfer plugin is for transcoding R3D files directly in Final Cut. If you have already gone through Redcine then you do not need to use the Log and Transfer plugin. Just drag your movie into the bin as you normally would.

The reason it renames the clip to RedMag.mov is because you have not set up a naming convention for your output. If you'd like the exported movie to have the same name as the source clip type #F.mov in your output settings.

Hi Steve,

Couple of things:

1. Log and Transfer opens the PROXY files that the camera creates, not the files you export from Redcine. You should see them with your original files as FILENAME_P.MOV, FILENAME_M.MOV etc. These are what you open in Log and Transfer.

2. In Redcine, many people export into their editing CODEC (prores, uncompressed etc.) so you don't use Log and Transfer, you just import them like any other clip.

Hope this helps and I didn't miss the point of your post.

Cheers,

Jim Hare

Actuall Jim, Log and Transfer looks at the R3D files not the quicktime ref files.

Tremendous thanks to both of you. I am a complete novice with Red and the workflow. I will do as you both suggest and report back should I have any problems. Again, my appreciation to you both.

Hey Steve,
Got some answers already. Just to clarify guys, Steve and I have an understanding whereas he is managing my camera in SoCal whilst I am busy with other professional undertakings. To that end neither of us have much experience with the whole Post issues and have really only been hitting into that these past few days.

Appreciate the help guys and best of luck with your projects too.

Cheers,
Mark.

MODS; you may want to move this to the appropriate Workflow thread. Steve, best to post there buddy.
