Can someone help me figure out if there are owners with two Red Ones in the first 50 or so serial numbers?

I am trying to gauge if there is a chance to avoid having to coordinate two different rentals.

I think OffHollywood has two and three, plus two more in the first twenty. Right? Anyone else?

Robert-
All due respect to OffHollywood (who I believe have #6 & #7) Steve Tammi (#17) and I (#19) are both part of the 4K Ninjas (no we are not planning to become the 5K Ninjas :rolleyes5:) and would be willing to discuss organizing a two camera rental if you like.

FYI to the best of my knowledge the resident Madman has #1-#5.

Cheers- #19

Epic-X yes!

Epic-X yes!

I am absolutely planning to get an Epic-X when available and last time I chatted with Steve he was of the same mind. We love our RedOnes, but I expect the Epic modular form factor, frame rate options, presumed use of the new ASICs, etc to be awesome.

Cheers- #19

Offhollywood does in fact have #6 and #7 and yes 1-5 are privately held and again yes... Epic-X will be in full effect here on the East Coast, ready to rock when ever you call upon us.

I think Blair just meant they aren't changing the name to keep up with the resolution! Who would want to hire 28k Ninjas? :w00t:

Well if you are not planing on getting Epic-X's I am not sure how you could help me. Did I misunderstand your post?

hahaha very funny jimhare...cheers bro
Lets wait those Epic...almost a Epopey

A 4K in the road?

A 4K in the road?

FWIW I am excited about 5K acquisition on a Bayer pattern sensor as I expect a pretty legitimate 4K after decode. Once the hardware costs and time penalties of doing 4K DI vs 2K DI are marginal (RED Rocket™™ looks poised to accelerate this) I expect 4K DI to become the new standard - therefore I am quite happy being a 4K Ninja. Due to limitations of the human visual system 4K in post may have a longer life, in relative terms, than other standards.

It will be fun to see whether that prediction holds up 10 years from now :iamwithstupid:

if cameras are rolled out as they were two years ago, the first couple of months will be the sole domain of 6-50, which really means about 30 cameras...but as far as i know we are all ready willing, able and experienced at renting so there will be no problem at all find two, three, 4, 5 or whatever u need to fulfill your needs. but my guess is at least 200 will hit the street on day 1. it is a good number and will provide an awful lot of healthy feedback...

you know how to find us....we are here watching, reading, ready to pounce....

That would be pretty sweet if your first feature ended up being the first feature ever to be shot on Epic. Good luck!

It sure would... I would be f'ing ecstatic. There is a lot that needs to fall into place first, and we might bet beaten to it by someone else, but I am not thinking of that.

What is important to me is that we pick the absolute best camera for our project. I feel very confident that Epic-X will be the best choice, cause I want it all.
Greedy? Sure, why not!

While there is always film, we would really benefit from a digital workflow which would throw quite a bit of cash over from processing to VFX, SFX, and other important aspects of production. I am trying to squeeze every drop out of the budget since I wrote quite a bit of tricky VFX into the film.

Naturally, I also wish for a camera that blows everything else out of the water in terms of picture quality. Hopefully one that blurs the line between film and digital. I felt that Red One got very close to that. With Mysterium-X and Epic using the new Red Codes, it really sounds like it will be close to film-like perfection. Thinking of the 1.5 stops lower noise, 5k resolution, added bit-depth, and build 20 color science like a cherry on top.

Who knows, maybe FCP will use the new SDK before we shoot and we'd be able to on-line edit a sequence in RT on set without anything more than a new laptop and a $4,750 card... at full 4k/5k resolution... mind-blowing. I can only cross my fingers an work on my story.

Still, there are so many other even more fantastic aspects of shooting with this second generation RED camera. Personally, the form factor of a stripped down Epic is far more exiting than all of those drool inducing specs. I can't wait to throw it on a steady cam in ultra-light configuration and follow our cast running scared on deep snow, squeeze it into a corner for wide interiors on longer lenses, hand-hold it and move it in ways that little HVX's have been handled in award winning projects.

It will be liberating to be able to do nearly anything you can think of, and still have a picture quality that will likely satisfy the best DPs in the world. All of this possible without breaking the bank before you begin spending on production value.

Way too modest. #39 is with Offhollywood as well and will be going Epic X. :)

I think RED is a little bit more equipped to handle more cameras than back in 07..

It was a new venture.. crazy issues with different parts of the camera..
Believe me.. once they get the first few cameras figured out (in house testing)
they will pump them out as fast as they would any desktop computer.

I wouldnt expect to see the same early number domination as we did with the ONE

While it's true that they can push equipment out faster now than when they first started, they will also have to be equipped on the shipping and customer service throughput of the equipment. I am guessing that is going to be as big as challenge as the manufacturing, and they are not going to want to stress the customer service department - customer service is a huge part of a company's reputation. Meanwhile, they will still be maintaining service on the 6,000 or so RED ONEs in the field. It's a huge deal.

Which makes me think that dino's guess of 200 or so cameras in the first batch may be fairly on target. Which gives me exactly the time that I need to get our next project lined up. Here's hoping!

What Red has achieved is pretty astounding. 6000 REDS in the wild! The only sour note is the paltry amount of RED borne content out there. W/ this many cameras I was hoping to see more films out there. I suspect there are a lot of R1's w/ little to no mileage on them....

Make it 206 in the first batch and I'll be happy!
