  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Two Epic-X's Feb 2010? (low number R1's)

It could be a while for me. Who thinks #791 will be able to be converted to an X by August 2010? I would love to shot our next feature on it.

"Due to limitations of the human visual system 4K in post may have a longer life, in relative terms, than other standards."

Don't you mean because of the performance of human eyes, being able to tell the difference between a 2k and a 4k product?

I haven't done the test on myself. Many argue how 2k is that dreaded "good enough" and that's all we should hope for.

Personally, I'm happy with 3 perf 35mm, and they tell me it is roughly 3k to 3.2k of data. That's my own definition of "good enough." I have seen quality issues with 2K DI finishes.

Many cinematographers complain loudly (Roger Deakins for one) how their images were ruined by a 2K DI, and they prefer a 4K. As costs go down, this is obviously the next standard that professional film companies will adopt.

I remember getting into heated discussions with video kids about this topic. Because they love their 1080 camcorders that's supposed to be all the world needs. I had to disagree.

In a world where everyone has a 1080 screen in their living room, who needs to go to the movies?

I own RED #0008 and the city-named camera "London".

I'll be going Stage 1 "Tatoo". When they're available I'll also be buying two fixed lens Scarlet, a FF35 Scarlet, and a FF35 Epic.

As I've always done with my RED One cameras, my cameras will not be available for bare rent, but only be available for my own projects and projects I'm contracted by others for. Anyone interested in bringing me and my cameras into their project can contact me to discuss the possibilities.
