  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Reel... helmet on.

Love the reel - hate the h264 compression. Someone please volunteer to host a ProRes HQ version of this :-)

Great to see you guys at IBC this year. Someday I hope to be able to cut my way through the masses and have a one on one chat with you. Ted - feel better soon...

It was done on wicked short notice and was downloaded to our friends at Camelot (Holland) who hand carried it to us 20 minutes before the show began. Thanks again, Philippe!

Jim

Philippe at Cam-a-lot is a great guy. I met him about five years ago at a Sante Fe Workshop in LA. In fact, I met Deanan there as well (but that was back in his Dalsa days).

I'm still trying to figure out the camel shot. Aerial first then telescoping jib? Great job, whatever the setup was.

Yeah, I'm really curious too.. I suspect it was all done on a blimp or something similar. I'm curious if the audio is production, or foley. I'm about to go check out the SoulCam stuff. By far, the Camel footage was the most compelling and interesting shot of the whole bunch. Good reel, but I was just about to turn it off prematurely, until the Camel showed up.. then I had to watch it a second time.

yeah, it is like ying / yang ... suddenly the camel brings calm ;-)

Has anyone successfully downloaded the reel on a pc, I watch qt stuff all the time, but every time I download this qt player says it's corrupt, any ideas?

Yes, go a few posts back.

As long as you don't use Quicktime to play Quicktime files, all is good. :badputer:

Fucking A. Im a huge Greenday fan, so I got a kick out of this.

RED is cooking with gas. Lots of fun!

You could license this to Sony.

Kyle,

My thoughts exactly.

The first stuff was well shot--amazing action, but it all had that greasy, plastic, blue-green, over-sharpened video-game look that everyone seems to be going for these days. I like Green Day, but a little too much of that, too. But the last sequence, wow, I was really impressed. Just beautiful. I think it really shows the range of the camera's capability.

Hello All,

Great to hear a lot of you got to see the new reel on the big screen... I hope the projectionists set up the screen masking properly to take full advantage of that Giant wide-screen at IBC, since we did a 240 finish of it specific to showing it as big as possible.

Some of you were asking about who shot that camel footage (which I agree is stunning) I hope you all got a chuckle out of the camel noises...

My good friend Arnaud from Paris, and his company LocaRED was responsible for the camel footage we used for the credits, and the aerial work was done by a company called Soulcam.

In our rush to get it out the door, the thing we focused on the least were the proper qc of the crediting - we need to re-visit that now that we made the IBC deadline to make sure we got everyone (a huge thank you to Philippe from Camalot in Amsterdam for downloading it and getting the DCP to Jim, just in the nick of time to show it for everyone)

Hi Ted,

Good to hear from you. We missed you in Amsterdam, Jim probably most of all since he had to stand up in front of the packed IBC Big Screen theater and speak...

All our best, hope to see you back up and wearing down that stage soon.

Cheers,
Damien

Thanks for all the good thoughts - one unintended upside is I now have more time to read the forums and occasionally respond :-) (I'll do my best to not sound like a total idiot on here - I'm much more comfortable speaking than typing)

And I love the camel shot as well... if you think it looks good on your computer screen with the H.264 compression, or in 2k at IBC you should see it in 4k! Perhaps the next time we screen it large venue we will be able to screen it in 4k instead of 2k... It it absolutely stunning to see it in all it's glory!

Hello TedRed...........I thought you need full names on this forum......right?

Just kidding. Heh heh heh

ha ha there isnt really alot of Patriotism in Canada.. Most Canadians would just prefer to be called Americans and secretly most dream of just being adopted by the United States of America... well except for those crazy French-Canadians maybe.

Let's see how much trouble that statement gets me in :)

Une chance que je ne comprend pas l'anglais...
(by chance i do not understand english)

Heh heh... :)

RED's gotta cut another indie reel with all the footage sent in by us nobody's

the RED TEAM in red under his name and his name being in RED probably may offer some sort of Clue that he is from RED :)

And who's to say his real name isn't Ted Red? And how cool would that be if it was? I don't know which would be more BA: Ted Red, or Ace Hole. It's a toss up.
