  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Transformers 2

come on guys... its a pop-corn movie. it's like going to a circus. pure entertainment. when you go to the circus, you know you aint gonna learn anything or be a better human being after watching a bunch of monkeys jump around.
transformers and terminator movies.. are like that.. monkeys jumping around.

i was dissappointed with up though... even though i enjoyed it and laughed. something wasnt right. i thought maybe too few characters, and very repetitive, the entire act2 to act 3 of the movie is a repetitive shot of a house with a kid, an old man and a bird moving and pulling from left of the screen to the right.

yet another movie of monkeys jumping through hoops.

very enjoyable, and pure entertainment. you will be in a complete passive mode. and thats what the major public wants.

if you guys want something that would tickle ure brains and make you think or add more taste and flavour.. you can watch stuff like lars von trier, enter the void, johnny mad dog...

about hollywood,

august last year, i went to visit sony pictures ceo.. and met lots of wonderful people on their team. I was there with a screenwriter along with his class taking a tour of sony labs.

the ceo literary said; the screenplay isnt important, all stories are the same, only slight difference in color. its all about creating virtual realities and effects. those are the boundaries we break to make real money.

Alright gents, we need a little reality here. Was this movie utter shite? Of course! But, did it also have Megan Fox running in slo mo? Hell yes!

(Disclaimer, I cease thinking with my filmmaking big head when M. Fox enters the screen)

You Guys are on crack.

I never looked at my watch.

I was never ahead of the story.

Every frame looked beautifully shot.

The action was high.

And the audience was enjoying it.

What more do you want from a summer event film?

A lot of times I think that most the people on here are low budget independent film makes or work for regional production companies doing local video work and wished they could be making these movies. Because some comments come across as bitter and bashing just for the sake of it. I am far from Michael Bays biggest fan but I liked this movie, I walked out of the theater thinking it was worth the price of admission, and I'm gonna add it to my BluRay collection.

This film is solely about commerce, nothing wrong in that but don't kid yourself it's a good movie and don't insult those with enough intelligence to see through the sham that it represents.

See these are the kind of comments that I find insulting.

Don't insult those who don't think it's a sham to enjoy silly fun entertainment. It was 2.5 hours of entertainment for $10. That's a 'good' movie in my books. I've payed a lot more for a lot less that I still considered worthwhile.

Was it a good story? No. But Movie does not necessariliy mean drama. Nature Documentaries are often light on story. Mythbusters is light on story. But they're entertaining. Most people watch 40 minutes of mythbusters to see one explosion or car crash at the end. Transformers delivers dozens per minute. :)

You're insulting my intelligence to suggest that I can't see the purpose of the film: to entertain. How is entertainment a sham? What's wrong with commerce? Do you think Sundance exists for altruistic reasons? Hell no. It's there to profit from indie films.

Please read more carefully, I said there was nothing wrong with commerce and I have no problem with pop-corn flicks, I have a problem with the earlier poster suggesting people who don't like this movie are amateur wannabes.

get me out of it..

or are you calling someone who has made the history of storytelling a regional worker?

this summer

I didn't say anybody was. I said it sounds like they are.
If you don't like a movie, then you don't like a movie. It's completely subjective.

When people ask me if I liked a movie, and I didn't, I give an explanation of the negatives based on Story, Direction, Style, Substance, Pacing, and my biggest grip, Plot Holes.

I don't get all emotional slamming it as the biggest piece of shit the world has ever seen.
That to me sounds Bitter.

I paid $8 to watch Megan Fox and giant robots for 2 hours. I'm happy.

Did the story suck? Yes. Did the acting suck? Yes. Were the FX cool to watch? Yes.

As BigLu and others above have said, this is a movie based on a cartoon. It is a marketing machine, designed to sell toys, t-shirts, and allow kids and young teens, and all of us "adults" who geeked out over the original cartoon in the '80s, to spend money and be entertained.

The story was as shallow and the dialogue was as cheesy as the cartoon ever was. Mission accomplished. This movie was exactly what I expected when I bought my ticket. And I can assure you that it was the same for 99% of everyone else who contributed to that $200M opening weekend.

Thanks for this nice summary - so nobody here or elsewhere has any right to critizise the way Hollywood is going (down the toilet). The movies are 90% shit except vfx but people nonetheless watch and pay for them - well done!

The motion picture business is, well, a business. The purpose of a business is to make money. This picture made over $200 million in less than a week. That's a pretty successful business venture if you ask me, and quite frankly, is likely to be successful enough to help the studio finance quite a few other pictures, both commercial and artistic. So, in the end, everyone benefits. What's wrong with that?

Way to start a flame war, dude.

I think what's happening here is that we are just seeing a huge clash of TASTE.

**This is my own opinion and in no way am I claiming it as fact** :)

In the last few years, I have decided that there are FILMS and then there are MOVIES. Some people have a taste for films: There's rich characters, drama, multi-layered stories, and it leaves you thinking when the credits role and have an emotional affect on you. I.e. the Wrestler, Slumdog, what have you.

Then again, there are Movies. They allow us to escape for two hours into a theater and simply be entertained. Cool explosions, hot babes, funny dialog, whatever you want. Movies are good, plain old fun. I.e. Transformers, Anchorman, etc.

There is nothing wrong with either type, and I often watch both. Some days, I want something with substance and meaning. Other days, I just want to zone out and watch cars flipping over Martin Lawrence's head. There's no wrong answer. It's all about TASTE. So from a film-lover's perspective, Michael Bay sucks a big one. From a movie-lover's perspective, Terry Gilliam makes absolutely no sense, ever :)

I personally am a HUGE fan of Edgar Wright/Simon Pegg films because they own the middle ground between films and movies (in my book). Lots of great characters, substance, story coupled with gore, action, explosions, slick editing, etc. A close second to Wright/Pegg are Apatow films.

Judging by the box office numbers for Transformers 2, there is a higher population of movie lovers than there are film lovers. That's the way the cookie crumbles.
