I have an iphone 3G.. not the (S)

I have a conspiracy theory..

ever since the new phone was announced, Like literally the day before it was announced (before it hit the shelves)

My IPHONE 3G has been running ridiculously slow...
programs take forever to open.. internet is slower.. weird little hiccups here and there..

I think apple sent something via network to eff up the iphone 3G in order to make the 3G s seem faster.. and make current owners want to upgrade.

anyone else having these issues?

cold reboot the phone. I've had some of my friends experience the same temporary problem.

me to.... but not just the iPhone, all my Macs are acting up. They want me to buy new Mac's as well... Come to think of it, my car's check engine light just lit up on the way home. Toyota's in on it as well!

Thank goodness my Red's running well.... and my wife still loves me [ at least she says she does ]

My iPhone is the original model, so I don't even have 3G support.. And the 4GB one too. The phone and I are about to have our 2nd anniversary in a week or so. It's running great. This phone has never skipped a beat, best phone I've ever owned and I've owned a lot of them over the years.

So I've really got my eye on the 3GS. Probably the 16GB model...

The other shitty thing about upgrading is the price conspiracy. As a current iPhone 3G customer I was absolutely pissed at the false advertising of the $199.99 price tag. They don't tell you until you go to order the phone that you have to qualify for that price. Now, I figured since I have owned two iPhones in two years and signed two service contracts with AT&T that I would for sure qualify for the advertised $199.99 price tag. But no! Instead, for being a loyal customer they reward me by informing me that I do not qualify for that upgrade and I must pay $399.99 for the 16gb model or $499.99 for the 32gb model. On top of that, my friend who has never been an AT&T or Apple customer in his life walks in and gets the 3gs first day for $199.99.
Seriously, I love this phone, I am a big Apple products supporter but FU!! Apple and AT&T for this one. I will not buy another iPhone because of it and as soon as AT&T and apple's contract is up I'm switching to Verizon (not just because of this rediculous upgrade price but At&t's service sucks ass!)
sorry for the rant but you would think these compAnies would reward their loyal customers instead of shit on them.

Well Iphone is lacking in features if we compare it to other phones at the same price..
Therefore i can say that iphone is for those people who wanna buy phone only for looks and not for features..

What other phones at the same price?

I'm sorry, but I respectfully completely disagree with this complaint. AT&T and Apple are not the first people to have this policy. Pretty much every cell company out there does this exact same thing. You are a new costumer, they give you a $400 discount on the phone. Now that's a great deal. But if you got a $400 discount EVERY time you got a new phone, it just doesn't make any business sense.

As for the phone slowing down "conveniently" with the launch of the 3gs, I think we all like to think that we're being intentionally screwed. That way, when you cave and by the new phone, you have someone to blame it on :-)

I haven't noticed a change in speed so far but I just upgraded my 3G to 3.0.

Sorry, this is rediculous IMO. I respect your opinion and all but with all due respect to you I completely dissagree with you and think this policy is bulls!@t. Enjoy being ripped off if you wish!

Haha, I never said I enjoyed paying out the ass :-) I agree that the policy sucks big time. I just meant that it's not JUST AT&T and Apple that are bending everyone over. It's the way most cell companies do business. Facts of life, my friend.

So I think I'm finally going to take the plunge and get an iPhone 3Gs 32GB today. Lucky for me, I get to take advantage of the price break. But Verizon is charing me 110 bucks to get out of my 2-yr contract with them. :(

Can anyone tell me about the ability of the iPhone to tether to a laptop? I understand that I need a special cable and to pay an extra $30 a month to tether. But that still beats an additional $60 a month for a separate wireless card.

Mike, how much time is left on your contract? Also, was your bill paid current when you checked for the upgrade? First time I checked, I was told I didn't qualify. But it was because my bill payment hadn't been processed by AT&T yet. After it went through their system the following day, I qualified. According to my local AT&T store, any current customer with their bill paid current should qualify. If your current 2 year contract is not up, they may or may not allow an upgrade depending on how much time is left. If you have more than a year left on your 3G contract, they're probably not going to let you do the subsidized upgrade. I seem to recall that they told me if there's less than 6 months on the current contract, they would do the upgrade and add the new 2-year term to the end of the current term.

I agree with you that these policies are bullshit. But I've dealt with the same basic policies from every provider I've ever dealt with, business and personal... Nextel, Verizon, AT&T, etc.. FWIW, if Apple started making a CDMA version of the iPhone, I'd switch back to Verizon instantly. OTOH, I appreciate AT&T's roll-over minutes and have had no troubles with them yet in 2 years. So I don't know if I'd really switch back to Verizon that fast... I just had 4 trouble-free years with them before switching to the iPhone and would gladly go back.

And when was the last time Apple gave you a discount on a new Mac just because you already owned one? You seem to not understand the concept of "new customers" to cell phone companies. Getting new customers is what the phone deals are all about. That has enough value to them to justify subsidizing the cost of the handset. There is little value to them in having an existing customer purchase new hardware. The only way there is value is to tie that customer up for an extended period of time, which is why they will sometimes offer a discounted price on a new handset in exchange for a new multiyear contract commitment.

Tethering is not available on AT&T's system in the US yet. At least officially
