  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

avid mxf red workflow

right.
a bit more update
ConFuze(tm) now gives the abilty to pick the metadata from the file as a look or use any 1 RSX file as the look for the whole batch or ignore it all and just set the gamma and colourspace as before.
i made the whole load of the R3D files I've got black and white with an iso rating of 160 today.
all worked!
Also now has the choice to have burn ins or not on the offlines.

Stuart emailed me a version of writeavidmxf that almost worked in 23.98 (pictures etc came into the avid but the timecode wasn't quite right) so I guess he's working on it already!! Knowing him it won't be long before it's done especially as now i've sent him an example file to work from.
I'll do a screencast next week and update the movie page so you guys can see what's going on in Parry Industries inc.

Americans Rejoice!

hiya
Stuart Cunningham is cool.
He has sent me today a new writeavidmxf that will take in DNxHD36 at 23.976
so that means the offline bit of the workflow is done and dusted.
R3D to AVID MXF in one click.
ace.
Now he and I didn't know (because we are PAL people) that the AVID wants DNXHD175 not 185 in 23.976 projects so I have emailed him with this info and hopefully we may see the "online pull" bit woking in dnxhd as well.
I'm not sure if there is an uncompressed 1080p option in the avid but if there is I may give him some time off from me and then ask for that!
so to recap the folder of all r3d's to all avid mxf's at dnx36 is done for 25 and 23.976
these are the two "TV" rates right? I know mmost tells tv tpes off for working in 24 as i causes so much hassle in post.
will do screencast now
cheers

screencasts up

screencasts up

hello

www.jamieparry.demon.co.uk

now has a video of the gui at work
a 23.98 demo of the offline bit
a video of one rsx applying to all files

my screencasting is getting better.... the HD option on youtube seems to make it more legible but a bit s t u ttt er y on my mac at home (old G5 trooper)
let me know if it's better on intel macs will ya?

my boss took a look today and said "that's nice Jamie- can you do one for Final Cut...."
so tomorrow i will be learning XML.....:)

awesome stuff jamie.

just wondering. in the color option pulldown menu, what does 'metadata' make the application do? use the camera's metadata? or use the clip's individual rsx file?

it would be ideal to have both of those options available, on top of the 'one look to rule them all' option.

when are you releasing this program?

chris
metadata does "metadata from the camera"
I'll try and add a "rsx from folder" option if i can get it to work.

mark
cheers for that, I think i've come across spherico stuff before BWF2XML i think.
I'll just send my boss Clipfinder tomorrow.
THAT.IS.PROPER.PROGRAMMING.
awesome stuff which means i won't have to swear at the computer so much tomorrow. Yaay!

Nice. Guess that means you can keep your focus on the Avid workflow

hello
Rejoice all Canadians!!!
all 23.98 functions now work just as they do in the 25fps world

www.jamieparry.demon.co.uk

now updated with the online 23.98 workflow bit
i think i've just got the " use the Folder RSX" function to work so i may add that too!
nothing tomorrow i'm doing pretty pictures on the davinci.
day after i've been promised a drive full of R3D files from the camera hire company near here

http://www.visuals.co.uk/VisualImpactNorthern/
so on Thursday i will give it a big test-maybe with some overcranked stuff if possible (that's unknown territory for me)
then i'll talk to my boss about selling it/keeping it under wraps at

http://www.sumners.co.uk

someone from avid (Bob Russo) has been in touch about putting it on avid's site which makes me feel all nervous because then i'll have to act all professional and stuff.eeek!
cheers

If you were using this to process A LOT of files, say a couple of days worth of shooting and therefore left it crunching away, I wondered if it might be worth while having an option to activate Media Composer (bring it to the front) when ConFuze is done processing, so that the Avid Media Database has also finished refreshing once you come back to the machine.

I think MXF refreshing is actually faster than OMF is, but still it might save a few minutes when you return and want to get on with it. What do you think?

avid to the front

avid to the front

should be easy to bring avid up
the power of applescript!!!

tell finder activate
tell application "avid thingy"
activate
end tell
end tell

should do it

i didn't know it would take that long to update databases. it seems pretty quick on mine because essentially my folder has bugger all in it!
so i'll add that, thanks for the suggestion.
now if only i can work out some way to get bisuits over email......
or biscuits over ip
boip.
:)

Out of interest, is there any reason you would ever leave the clean up option off so the .mov and .dnx files are not removed after processing?
