  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

How much do you have saved so far?

I was just wondering if most of you planned on chargin it up and paying it off slowly or if any of you guys already have enough to buy her (Scarlet of course).

Personally i have about 10k so far... I probably need double that tho...

Scarlet is definitely going to leave a hole in my wallet...

I'm thinking around 30k...I've got about 10k right now,

S35 alone is 7k...plus modules...going to mount up to about another 2-3k plus new tripod another 2-3k, steady cam etc. and storage for the footage...and then of course lenses...definitely buying them from RED so thats 19k...

woohoo for spending! xD

Loooong time reader, told myself 6-8 months before they drop in our hands I would likely finally register here.

If the complete kit for the fixed lens Scarlet is $3750 I just need to set aside 4 or 5K - I already have lights but a new tripod would be nice too.
Does anyone know if the "complete kit" comes with the small LCD screen?

Sure hope by Sept/Oct I'll have it so I can begin production on my next feature...one can hope..

being a longtime reader, I told myself "you moron, you gotta have 5k (dude, not resolution but dollars!) available in Sept, 2009".

... so far I have two hundred. This doesn't seem to be good way :)

if we're going by student debt i'm somewhere around -70. but I've got the cash some cash set aside for the fixed scarlet. assuming it stays around 4 grand

So considering most of us are not going to be able to plop down all the cash. What do you think the best options are for the lowest borrowed interest? I'm having trouble trying to figure out how i can borrow 19K and not have to pay my life in interest.

After I ordered the Mark II for still photography.
$0.- :)

Will rent it. I'm more interested into that shoulder-rig actually. Cameras that shot video are available everywhere in a year. There is no reason for 3k for youtube or vimeo.

I have saved enough to get the scarlet :)

Question is.. which one do I go for and I hope it will be out soon but something tells me its a year wait :p

Well I have to shoot my next feature before 2010, so if the Fixed and the Cinema versions don't come out 'till the end of the year I might have to buy the S35 which is very likely to be out this Fall.
If the brain for the S35 is $7K how much would RED lens cost? (the most basic lens, kinda like the lens on the Fixed Scarlet)
Just trying to see how much I need to start shooting, I'm guessing 10K. (already have a Quad Mac Pro, Lights, etc)

what do we suppose is the mimimum to get up and running - if you get the scarlet cinema ($2500), then you could get a Canon EF mount ($200?) and Canon EF 50mm lens ($120).. for a total of $2820!! And you have a fantastic working RED camera.

Forgive me - although I've been monitoring RED since its very birth, I get confused with all the things you need. Am I missing anything?

Also, in terms of cinematic image quality, how much will having anamorphic help? (epic has anamorphic listed in its specs but scarlets don't)

I rather wait for a mini prime if I got a Cinema - I think for $3750 the fixed with complete kit is the one for me....you can always attach an adapter for a wide or telephoto look.

What exactly comes with the complete kit? (I think its a power brick, charger and a finder)

Haha, where do you see that $2.5k Scarlet?
that's how much the Cinema Brain is listed on RED.com for....

he said the lens were an additional $120 in his post.

anyway - hopefully the mini primes will be announced soon so we know which Scarlet will fit our needs better...personally I'll buy the Cinema one if it comes out first, which I'm thinking it will.

Considering so many hollywood feature films (e.g. jumper) have been made on a Red One, what is the point in anyone going for anything above a scarlet S35?

I'm looking at the sensor sizes and specs here: http://www.red.com/epic_scarlet/

I am assuming I must be missing something?

But this 50mm won't be 50mm on 2/3.

Still photography for instance.
