  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The "silver" renders are a representation of our tumbled aluminum prototypes (which we really like). The black renders are more what we expect the shipping cameras to look like. Truth is you really never know what we will do when it is time to ship.

Actually, I just love playing around with this render program and Matt's models.

Jim. I'm going to be beta testing an application/chip this spring that you're going to jump over backwards with excitement about.

It's going to be the RED of rendering applications. I'll be sure to PM you when it's publicly available.

Re Dry Ice and Backpack:

As portable as RED is... it's not palmable. The backpack may have been annoying for them but until the RED/EPIC system comes out it's still a full blown camera system. Remoting all of the processing to an inconvenient backpack is still impressive. Shooting with a camera the size of a few couple of wallets is a cool trick regardless of dry ice. Something unique to the SI camera and a large part of the reason they chose digital over film. Since it offered unique advantages that were completely impossible with film.

And as I mentioned in another post, I've recently "acquired" an SI-2K and, sans the associated Oscar accolades, the camera is pretty sweet for what it is. No, it's not a panacea, but for indie helmers...it's quite a bit more than we've ever had before...even with its limitations.

Jim, bring the Scarlet. I made the trip down to your lab...solely to play with the Red for a bit. Given the form factor, and capabilities you're imbuing upon the Scarlet, the camera will literally be a dream come true for filmmakers.

Will the DSMC have the ability to assign Video Recording and Still recording to individual media?

It would help keep things more organized if the operator had the option to assign Video Capture to the REDDRIVE and then when you switch over to Still Mode it is configured to save them to the CF Card.

Just an idea - maybe already in the spec? (assignable save locations per shooting mode)
 
Is it possible that you made a cable say at least 30cm/1 foot long between the brain and the other modules?

Damn, I could have thought of that. Yeah, drop me a fixed 2/3" 3d Rig please. I'll pm you my .... whatthef...? Doesn't work? I need to wait as like anybody else? But I'm starting a short and don't want to use my <a href="http://minoru3d.com">3d-Webcam</a> for it :blink: It only gives me 640by480 res in 15fps in a virtual 720 degree shutter or so ;-)

I like the idea of them having a different color. But I'll have mine custom painted anyway. In infrared. :clown2:

Not defending it but submitting that the RED also happens to need ice in hot conditions and can't fit or be used in many of the ways an SI can. Horses for courses but the RED is not without its many faults also. He who is perfect can cast the first stone...as they say.

I'm perfect. My eyes function in hotter conditions than any of these camera's. They function better in colder conditions than any of these camera's. I have 20/13 vision...Therefore I cast a stone...RED is better.

Hi! Talking about body colors... Grey seems a better choice to reduce heat in the sun...

While I was having my daily.... hourly daydream of playing with my scarlet for the first time, the one where I start to drool all over it. I thought about that drool getting into that top vent and destroying all the circuit goodness inside... So RED team, will you be accommodating the needs of those RED users prone to getting their new equipment covered in drool or will there just be a RED bib supplied with every order?
