  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Still changing...

I would like to know if the "intelligent" SLR lens support means communication with the lens for autofocus. This is a feature that should prove important for those situation were there is no time for focusing- documentary work on the field, etc.

I make documentaries for a living and after reading this board I often feel a bit maligned. I have never found myself in a situation where there is "no time to focus." It seems like whenever people start suggesting ways to cut corners with these cameras, documentaries are the rationale.

Jim, please keep the modularity coming, those of us in the nonfiction world appreciate the options.

Jim,
I will wash your feet for a 2/3 Monstro

But that would only give you about 1536 horizontal photosites and about 1280 lines of measured resolution. It would make one hell of a nice 720p camera, I think. Although, is that really what you want?

2/3" cinema high dynamic range high frame rate low price
come to think of it 2/3 should be great in low light

i havent seen much disscusion on the still shot capabilitys of DSMC would this be parallel to the motion capture side of the camera in regards to specs or would you have increased/different functionality in still mode?maybe red hold more cards up their sleeve

Different modes with different options. Toggle and get two menus.

Jim

Film Ylem,

Exchanges of info and views, brought to a mutual understanding point, are exactly the way this forum should function. :weight_lift:

No worries on this end...

I didn't think so Gibby...and the name is Eryc. It was just amusing to read in the wee hours of the morning.

James,

I'm betting that Jim/RED is not going to offer a B4 adaptor this time around since there was not THAT much demand for it this time. However, I'll bet there will be a 3rd party vendor that may step up with such an option.. Of course they will need to sell enough to do it as well.

Who knows.

We still offer a B4/PL adaptor and will have a B4 direct mount for Scarlet and EPIC. Lots of choices...

Jim

I thought that as well Jay,
Then Stuart English replied to this:

"No lens control for B4 lenses. But basic start / stop / replay triggers (as per R1) available on 10-pin AUX / RS232 connector on optional I/O modules."

This leads me to believe that the B4 option is still floating out there. I am still hopeful that a lens front will be an option instead of a $3500 Abakus or similar B4 to PL adapter.
I would like to use my Canon HDXS 17x lens for a bit longer and save a few bucks.

Thanks Jim for the clarification Jim, would this be something you could change out in the future (i.e. B4 mount now, change out front to PL mount, etc.)?

With Scarlet and EPIC, you can change between mounts in minutes. We'll offer quite a few options. That is the point of these cameras. Complete flexibility.

Jim

Jim, Will the B4 option hinder the resolution of the chip? Meaning, if I use a 2/3 HD lens will I only get 2K, 3K, etc?

Yes. With a 2/3rd lens you're effectively cropping the sensor.

Not on the 2/3" Scarlet. B4 lenses can be a reasonable choice for a run and gun doc cam. Hopefully they can be configured to power the servos off of a camera module even if the auto exposure and focus functions are not supported.

2/3rd Scarlet only shoots up to 3k. James asked if he is limited to 2k, 3k, etc. He is limited to 3k, or am I missing something?
