Stephen from ET is letting me test drive this beauty for a little while....

It can be set up for 19mm, 15mm, and 15mm LW. With a spacer will work with future cameras: epic / scarlet. Machined billet aluminum is lighter and stronger and more sexy than cast base plate.

Basically the last sliding base plate you will have to buy.

Saw this last week at ET looks pretty sweet.
First thing i imagine will change though will be those klipp levers.

Petty much everything I've seen from ET has been excellent, and this looks no exception. Very elegant and clever design,I'm looking forward to it being available.
ET are certainly becoming the "Arri" of the Red world with the quality of the accessories they produce.
Matt, how are the Kip Levers? they look like they would get in the way,how are you finding them in actual use?
Regards
Tom.

The Kip locks are fine in use, I did have to cut a bit more foam out of my case to get it in there.

The top handle is a one off.

What's the reasoning behind switching from the smaller levers on the old plate to the new one? I hadn't heard of any issues with them breaking or not holding the rod in well enough to keep it from slipping. It just seems ungainly to me, especially considering the new smaller size of the Epic. Just lower profile seems better to me.

This plate - ROCKS! But hey, it's made by Element Technica, so what else do you expect?

The Kip levers actually don't get in the way. They're nifty little handles when on standards/dolly though. Hanging cables off, holding a China marker, you're $30 hat...
(Anyone figure out a Panavision cable strap for other cameras?)

The Hybrid is solid (I need new adjectives for ET products). It is as though the RED BP and the ARRI BP got together and - you know where I'm going - It's the best of both worlds.

It appears to be around the same weight (didn't actually weigh them though) as the ARRI BP and when set down has a more solid resting point than with the ARRI.

It is the last base plate you will need.

The older levers always slipped loose on the ARRI BP I used. Specifically dumb side lever. Never been fan of those...

Yeah... The old levers could potentially wear down over time and have limited tightening range. I could see where variances in the casting or finishing of the baseplate, or in the rods themselves, could create some slippage.

No problems to report here with my 19mm.. yet.

It will work as long as the rod height to optical center distance can be configured properly. A shim plate may be necessary. However, most lens supports and matteboxes have enough adjustment room in them where a difference of a few mm isn't going to be any big deal. Follow Focus and motor systems could be a problem, just depends on how adjustable / configurable your gear is. If the hybrid base mounts too close to optical center, adding a shim plate is easy and relatively inexpensive.

Well the baseplate I already purchased (only a little over a year ago mind you) was $900.00 (ouch).

The good news is that the baseplate performs perfectly, so it was a good buy.

So is this new baseplate also going to be $900 or is it less?

From a previous thread:
WNow, on to the new Hybrid Bridge Plate. We have now discontinued our old bridge plate design for the Red in favor of the new Hybrid design. The Hybrid is convertible between 15mm studio, 19mm studio, 15mm lightweight, and 5/8’’ Panavision support. All with the same bridge plate. To switch rod standards, you simply remove the clamps on either end of the bridge plate and replace them with whatever rod standard you need. The top of the bridge plate also has 3 sets of holes. One set is for 15mm studio, one is for 19mm studio, and the third can be used with Arri cameras (with a 2.5mm shim plate).

The new Hybrid will be available from Red or directly from Element Technica. It will be $900 for single format (15mm studio or 19mm studio) or $1,200 for dual format (15mm studio and 19mm studio). The lightweight 15mm clamps will cost $275 and fit onto the front of the 15mm or 19mm studio clamps.

We will be posting a lot of images soon with detailed explanation about how to switch the clamps, as well as an email blast to everyone on our email list. They will be for sale on our website soon as well.
