  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RAID RACK Anyone Use It?

Yes its' real, I own one of the Raid Racks from Actionproducts and it works! My version came with the hard mount like you see on the website and with rubber mounted studs for dampening vibrations in such situations where it might be needed. I tested the rubber mounted vibration setup with hand held shooting and I did not get any dropped frames even when I ran up a flight of stairs with it.

I did have to play around with the angle that the Raid Rack is mounted to the top rail when using the rubber mount setup, otherwise the drive hits the side of the camera in extreme camera moves. I found that if you angle the Raid Rack at about a 15 degree angle up from being parallel to the top of the camera it is fine, no hits this way and no dropped frames.

The quality is great as you would expect from a Swiss made product and it's a very reasonable price. Don't forget when ordering from Europe directly you will have to pay an import tariff on the product, but it should be small, based on the value of the order.

If you still have trouble contacting Actionproducts, PM here on Reduser and I will see if I can get in touch with them for you.

Brad, do you have problem with the balance by mounting it sideway ?

Raid Rack is excellent. One of the best Red accessories around. It is a lightweight and extremely effective solution to mounting the Red Raid. Cant recommend it enough.

It is also great for mounting other stuff like your wireless mic system.

I believe that you are suposed to use two raid racks (top and bottom) when the rubber mount is used.. i may be wrong!

Rivai, no problems with balance, but if you had a whole day of just shoulder position hand held work it might become a problem. I am not much of a shoulder positioned hand held shooter, most of my hand held is waist level support by arms.

Michael interesting idea but don't think it would work, the distance from the top rods to the bottom rods is to great to use with the Red Raid and two Actionproducts Raid Rack supports. I talked with Daryl of Actionproducts when I received the Raid Rack and he didn't not mention anything about needing two Raid Racks when using the rubber mounted option.

We have the new double-pack with the rubber-dumpers. It is basically two raid racks, with a rubber dumber and a screw on each. I had to file on the reddrive quite a bit, to make the metal plates slide into the slots on the sides of the drives. But this is due to low precision of the reddrive parts.

I find the system hard to use as advertised. The metal plate, that slides into the drive-slot is attached with a screw, that can fall out very easy. When you are not careful enough you end up with about 5 parts including 2 damping pads and screws. Not very set-proof in my opinion.

So I basically leave the whole raidrack construction on the reddrive, attach it to the two rods, behind the topmounts. It may be a little bulky, and there is actually only one position to mount it onto, but it takes about 10 seconds to take it off and the drive is less prone to vibrations.

AP is a little tough to communicate with. Do not expect fast response times as in US.

I have the dual pack as well but am not mounting the drive on top. I use the second one to mount my wireless microphone. You are only supposed to use the rubber dampening parts when the drive is mounted on top - not when using a single one on the side.

Side mounting is very sturdy. Drive does not move at all. Simple, cheap, low key and effective. I have not had a single dropped frame. As I have the EVF on the other side, it all balances out well.

Best way to contact them is by telephone.

Sure, it is about what you shoot and how you shoot, that determines whether you can or cannot afford dropped frames.

I for my part cannot afford to go without a suspended red-drive, if I have to use it. (16GB cards, please !!! :whistling: ) I lost too much to dropped frames.

Cheers!

First of all I want to apologize if it sometimes takes a bit longer until we can respond. Had a lot to do that we moved our office and production to a new place. We are working on getting the communication to our customers better. About the RaidRack. You can use it in multiple ways. As mentioned on the side with one Rack (with or without rubber spacers) or on top (also below of course and with the spacers even on the side too) with two RaidRacks (always with or without the spacers).
We usually recommend to use the spacers with two Raidracks as it makes the setup easier and provides more stability. For this reason we normally don't ship the single RaidRack with spacers - only the double pack.
The RaidRack has actually more to it then it seams - like mentioned you can also use it for other accessories and there is a lot to come for it - stay tuned.

Just got mine

Just got mine

I have mine mounted on top. My Red is the best looking and feeling that it has ever been. Get this product now!!! I just wish they made a battery mount that was similar.

I bought two of these, and I think they are great. Very Solid, and really adds to modular notion of the red as you can place it pretty much anywhere depending how you set up your rig.

Definitely recommend it
