I guess it's the difference between a working prototype, and a ramped up production line which can be left almost unsupervised to crank out a product within tolerances and quality control limits.
I expect Andy Lesniak's competing product will hit similar obstacles along the way to becoming an off the shelf available product - which to be fair seems simpler in it's design targets than the Birger mount.
