Hi all

I have a fairly basic question.
I edited a project with FCP (6.0.4) using the H QuickTime proxies. Now I want to consolidate, meaning keeping only the footage I actually used, in it's original format, for future trimming.
When I use media manager in the usual way, I end up with self contained QT files. Is there a fast way to consolidate the QT proxies and their R3Ds? And if so what would be the settings?

Thanks

I want to understand your question better.

You edited your project using the H Proxies

And now you have your edits and its done.
What you want to do next is media manage, and make new (proxies) or new (media) ? with some handles.

And here is the part i need to be 100% clear with your question.
You want to basically reduce your R3Ds to your used portions of clips with handles if possible right?

You want media managed R3Ds? = to save space?

That's correct.
I have tons of footage which I haven't used, and I don't need it sitting on my system. I want to back up only the R3ds which I have used, and their matching QT proxies.
I guess one would need to consolidate (or copy) the folder containing the shot - R3d and proxies, rather than the actual file.

Is there a way to do this in FCP?

Thanks

This would be a great feature.

We could transfer only the selected originals to the fast Raid drive to CC them, instead of all rushes.

I'm not speaking of consolidating the original R3D (+ some handles) but just copying the used file.

export an EDL and use monkey frameextractor to copy only the R3D files which are needed.....

You can do the same with clipfinder. export an xml. Import xml into clipfinder and select all the clips, copy and paste to any folder you like ;) P.S. clipfinder is free ;)

good luck

Will try this tomorrow morning, thanks!

Also you can use media manager to make an offline project with only the clips you used and then reconnect them in the new project file. That should work.

I tried using clipfinder and I get an error when I paste the clips into a new folder. "The items in the Clipboard can't be pasted to this location One or more of the items may have been deleted or are no longer available" Workflow - Open FCP XML in Clipfinder 2.5 Beta 3 (288) then replace mov with R3D select all clips and copy to clipboard. Then paste into new folder on RAID. If I go through the clips in CF they are all there. It is a test so I only have 8 clips. How do I get this to work? Would be great.

Try just dragging and dropping the files from Clipfinder to your new folder. Drag&Drop vs Copy&Paste in CF is a little odd sometimes. For the most part the rule is: If you're moving *files* Drag&Drop, if you're moving *references* (AKA into FCP) Copy&Paste.
