  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

new RED ONE support.

picture.php

nice!

We made some improvements to the core rendering code so now I'd recommend 1 clip at a time and auto for cores. However, you may want to test because it does vary depending on disk i/o, debayer res, qt codec, etc.

There are two other goodies to be found...

It's in the scale section on output.
The new feature enables desqueeze plus letterbox.

Genius! By the way guys, REDALERT doesn't do the desqueeze, the option is "like Deanan said, in the output folder of Red Rushes! Took me a minute to figure out what was going in all my excitement :-)

Works like a charm. What doesn't work (at least not for me) is the quicktime proxies are all of no use, ie. snow screen. And, it crashes REDCINE everytime I attempt to import it there. RED did not say it would work in REDCINE either or QT yet so I am just reporting my findings thus far. But, I must say, this what i have been waiting for and I'm so happy its finally here. Beautiful job guys, really!

Deanan, any report on a new QT codec and or REDCINE that will support the Build 18 anamorphic footage?

BTW - I have a very quick test that i am uploading for all of you to play with in my iDisk so when its ready I will give the instructions and password for you all to access that file.
Cheers,
Mike

REEL ID? Full name or FCP 8 Character? That must be one right? And, support for more avid codecs?

Do you have the latest QT codec?

Deanan,
Very nice improvements!

To small usability features that would be really nice, if I may:
- For the output save panel: setCanCreateDirectories:YES :-)
- Drop support in the file view

Agreed. Just haven't had time to get them working.

The save panel isn't a save panel because it's select/open folder panel and it doesn't have the cancreatedirs option (at last it didn't the last time i looked).

Monitoring outputs

Monitoring outputs

so if I understand correctly, we will be able to view the anamorphic image unsqueezed in the EVF, LCD & on our field HD LCD Monitors? If this is so, you just saved me from buying a monitor that would do it for me.

Yes that is correct. You use existing monitors.

NSOpenPanel derives from NSSavePanel.
[mypanel setCanCreateDirectories:YES] should do the trick :-)

Sorry this is a totally lame question, but I don't understand exactly how the anamorphic mode on RED works. I always that you had to have a 4:3 size sensor to achieve an anamorphic frame size... the camera lens squeezes the image to fit the film when shooting and the lens on the projector unsqueezes in during projection.

So how does it work with RED ? Do you need to use an anamorphic lens or would you use a normal lens. Is the final result FULL 4K ? Is there any cropping or matting done?

thank you.

Do you have the latest QT codec?

I downloaded the new one today. Just restarted my computer but all I get is a snowy garbled screen. I'm running 10.4.11 if that makes any difference. I can open build 16 footage shot in 4K ana mode in QT with the new QT Component installed.

BTW - If anyone wants to play with the new anamorphic settings etc, you can download two clips from my iDisk,

On a Mac,
Finder, Go Menu, iDisk, other users public folder,
MEMBER NAME: mikeburton

The timelapse clip was taken with build 16. The quick Dust Off test was used with build 18 beta. Difference should be that the build 16 clip you can open in REDCINE and the build 18 transcode through REDRUSHES.

Enjoy all!
Mike
