As promised, we continue to support the RED ONE by delivering a new build.

Build 18 firmware is now available for Beta testing.

Recently utilized by Steven Soderbergh to shoot "The Girlfriend Experience", Build 18 adds native 2x anamorphic recording at 4K 1 - 25 fps, 3K 1- 50 fps and 2K 1 - 100 fps with REDCODE 36 image quality to a RED 8 GB CF card. In addition, all monitor outputs including RED-EVF, RED-LCD, HDMI and HD-SDI, preview and playback recorded images in a final presentation equivalent 2.40:1 aspect ratio.

A companion version of RED-ALERT (v3.6.0) that scales and expands anamorphic .R3D footage is also available from the RED support web site.

The existing QuickTime codec will play camera generated QuickTime Reference Movies of anamorphic .R3D footage in the original 1.2:1 aspect ratio.

Jim, don't you think you've made enough announcements for the day? :)

Awesome!

No way!!!!! Jim, this is awesome!!!!! Can I downgrade back to release build 16? It was not too long ago this was not possible. You have no idea how happy i am right now as an anamorphic lens owner.

Damnit Jim. I think I'm in love with you, is that weird? like not in a sexual way, but in a soft, gentle... innocent way... Can I touch your scalp... please?

jim...great day today...
i see r1 as a free loan from the company to earn the bucks for the epic.
hey i have r1 for 3 months and the money i spend is almost back in my pocket again.

when my epic turn comes i am ready baby...couldnt imagine last year to say that: i will own a 6k Camera. that is sick.

Thanks guys.

I can wait.

Unfortunately no anamorphic in my lens collection.

It's a time to get one.

Can I downgrade back to release build 16?

Yes you are free to upgrade / downgrade between 16 - 17 - 18.

If you try out 4K ANA recording, just make sure you use 2x anamorphic lenses :red_bandana:

Nice! Thanks Stuart! I am so stoked about this firmware upgrade guys! I really didn't think it was going to happen, but that just goes to show, never doubt again!
Great work and thanks for listening!
