  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

13th responses here...

Anyone think there is any more to come tonight? I think it is about bed time :(

Yeh but resolution wise its been served though, am I right, am i right? Lol I feel like I have A.D.D.

Unfortunately... to tell you the truth... probably not... cause you could argue that film has a lot more resolution to be extracted per square inch... and there are those 8 inch negatives, the panoramic medium format camera that seems to have inspired Jim to make the 617...

though I think the 3.2micron pixel size might be something for the real savvy guys to check out...

I am more concerned with DNR from a S35 size sensor... and with 11 stops plus a little more available when you downscale from 5K to 2K it will be very close to film... right? If not then FF35 with 13 stops plus the additional 1K so down sampling 3x from 6k to 2k... that should match the DNR of film right?

Someone that actually knows all this stuff, please explain

I think the 28k monster is just RED way to show how solid and mature the RED technology is. It is not for normal people, definitely.

Perhaps NASA would need few... uses 617 to shoot a 'FULL' moon, sounds very science fiction ?

Would be cool to carry around a 256MP still camera.. even if it does cost $50K

What I really like is that I can buy a S35 Scarlett/PL setup and use it for the majority of my work, personal stuff, etc.. and then when the budget calls for it, just rent an epic/monstro brain :) That's brilliant!
This is a VERY smart plan. You will be able to rent all the brains from us.

Offhollywood. WE RENT BRAINS.

I kinda like that !!!

Thnaks for that dude :P

well, the hype said this would be aimed squarely at the dslr market... what I see so far, pricewise won't be competing with the dslr market.

there are some AWESOME specs, but the 5d mkii at $2,600 comes in less, and for a full spec'd full frame 35mm chip here, we're looking to be priced well over what a 1ds mkiii costs new.

not saying I'm over it, just super excited to see how this all plays out in a real world buying situation in comparison to the slr's that are already out there.

I'm STOKED that Red has come out and knocked a major home run for the video guys, but I still feel like what we're seeing as of this moment isn't something that's going to put a big dent in the dslr market.

Now the medium format market, yes, this will definitely be doing some major damage there which is AWESOME.

I am super ready for Red to fully compete with Nikon and Canon though and teach them how to innovate and how to do so quickly and without trying to hold the market at their pace so they can make more money...

Well done Red! (but still holding my breath for a true dslr competitive camera)

If you look at the specs, it seems like Scarlet S35 is the "new" Red One, but better, of course, with the newer sensor, better ergonomics and accessories. At $7000 for the brain it should be hugely successful.
