We are proud to announce that the our very popular V style Hotswap mount now passes RED Brick Battery data to the RED ONE camera. We've seen GP-TS sales increase dramatically since the release of the RED ONE and we've received many requests to remake the product to pass through the battery vitals.

The Hotswap allows RED Users to swap battery packs without incurring the 90sec. startup time from shutting down. With the original GP-TS the user had to be vigilant as to how much runtime remaining by calculation, because the GP-TS disabled the percentage capacity reading in the RED ONE, only showing 'DC'

The new GP-TS-RED allows the user to connect to equally charged RED BRICKS and receive accurate battery information to the RED ONE so you'll know exactly when to exchange RED BRICKS.

We've worked with Abel Cine Tech to provide this product to the market, and we thank them for their help.

We're going to have this sucker up on our website either today or tomorrow. Abel is exclusive with this product so now I can post something that you guys are always complaining about: What's the price? Abel will sell the new Switronix GP-TS-RED for $295.00.

We will have stock within days in both our NY and LA stores or purchasing can happen online.

Abel & Switronix have some more fun stuff cooking as well. Stay tuned...

We need this products in AB mount as well - even if it does not pass the info to the camera.

Any plans? LOTS of people are using AB batteries on their RED and would love a hot swap option.

From the Switronix site:

***Place TWO EQUALLY CHARGED RED Bricks on the Hotswap mount for accurate battery information to the RED ONE.***

Does that mean that if you swap one battery only in the middle of shooting your battery time on the camera gets all messed up?

I was wondering the same thing...

Nothing will get messed up. Here's the deal, the RED One is only capable of reading one set of battery data. Because of this, the GP-TS-RED is capable of passing the battery data from only one RED Brick(the right side). The mount regulates battery discharge equally, so as long as the batteries are equally charged, both batteries will be depleted equally and stay at the same percentage capacity level.

If the batteries are swapped around, and get to be at different levels, you still don't have to worry about a unplanned shut down because you will still get battery information from the right mount plate.....The only caveat is if you end up changing out the right side battery, and the left battery has no juice left. You can only determine Left side capacity by pressing the LEDs on the side, if both batteries aren't at equal charge levels from the start/exchange.

To keep everything accurate, when it's time to change batteries, exchange both batteries for fully charged batteries, one at a time.

Here's some snaps - we battle tested this for Abel & SWIT - TWO THUMBS WAY UP - this thing is pretty slick - love having a regulated - fused D-TAP in addition to the D-TAP on the quickplate - (the LCD shows DC in these snaps as the put a half dead RED BRICK on that side (with a fully charged on the other side) to see if it would switch over correctly.

I am still updating existing NON RED units to read RED I have done quite a few. Small cost of $30.00 plus return shipping.

Anton Bauer already makes this. It is a dual mount that fits to an Anton Bauer plate, so you'll have to switch out your current RED V-mount plate for the Anton Bauer QR-RED, which will mount right to your cradle in replacement (comes with a Lemo6 cable). Then stick on the dual mount adaptor and you're good to go.

Abel has this for sale as well.

Mitch,

I'm sure many would be interested in a full modification of the GP-TS-RED. That is a direct mount to Red Quick Plate or HDD Cradle with lemo power lead without requiring a Red V-lock battery plate to dock to. Any plans?

Yes.:clown2:

Just to get it straight - in the event your camera assistants are having an off-day does the GP-TS-RED safely power the camera down if both batteries are allowed to run down or would that result in a hard cut-out?

Yes, I know about that. But you can only use small batteries with it, not big 140Wh, 160Wh or 190Wh units.

Great work Vinny and certainly a big step in the right direction.

But to me it still needs an integrated lemo cable....bypassing the pins on the Red battery plate...which are crap?
But Red know that (as does everyone else) and are about to swap out all the old battery & charger plates to an upgraded version.

So getting rid of the additional (redundant) v-lock /4 pin electrical assemblies has gotta improve failures rates, weight & reduce kit .....gotta be a good thing. And two batteries swinging off that Red battery plate ain't gonna improve the situation.

So when do you plan to release a new version with a lemo cable hooking directly into your GP-TS....??

Is there a hold up with the dual plate rod mount assembly? Should be similiar to Red's quickplate. I know there are other mounts but to me the Red drive on side (or top) with your dual mount on bottom rod is sweet.

Personally I'd have to wait for the version with the integrated lemo cable or mod your current one as soon i got it.

Once you've got this sorted they should fly out the door. Operators will use Red's new battery plate for single use and yours for dual batteries.

good luck...don't sleep!

Dave

It's in the works.

The reason for this is weight. If you put two big Hytron 140w bricks on a dual mount it would be more than 10 lbs. hanging off of the single QR-RED plate. That's too much to safely rig.

For this reason neither Anton Bauer or anyone else makes a 3-pin battery mount dual adaptor that will accept larger bricks. Now, a dual mount that was not an adaptor but a hard mount to the cradle frame (or other mount point) with a Lemo6 cable would be something different, wouldn't it? That would be something indeed, and it should have a fused P-Tap on it (which the AB dual adaptor does not have). Yes, that would certainly be a nice tool for the Anton Bauer users out tere, wouldn't it? I would certainly agree that if someone made such a device that it would be a popular item for the many AB battery owners out there, as it is the most popular battery system in the US (maybe not the world).

Dear Mitch,

I fully agree. Judging from your tone, I feel such an item is in the works, too?... That would certainly be great news.

PS The Hytron are definitely huge, heavy beasts. However, other companies make and sell 190Wh batteries that are half the weight of the Hytrons (which are only 140Wh), and many RED ownders use those.

I will test that tomorrow - but I swear we did it and it powered down fine.

SwapPack

SwapPack

Well hearing about some of the issues I would like to point out our product one again. It is higher priced but also a high quality product (all 7075 aircraft aluminum construction). LEMO cable. Both sides pass the battery information (what is the reason that is does not work with two RED batteries simultaneously since one of the last firmware updates - but with all other batteries it does. Swapping is no problem). When for swapping it allows a narrow mounting to the camera. A middle position allows tho batteries at the same time. Available for V-Mount, Anton Bauer and PAG. Can be used together with our PowerBox. By the way - if you need to get to your RED information display ... you just slide it to the side :).....
