  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Switronix Releases GP-TS-RED

I received mine last week and initially it worked beautifully.

Currently, however, I am not getting the signal readout from the batteries.

I have rebooted three times, each time I remounted the batteries to make sure they were seated properly.

I still just get "DC" in the battery indicator?

I have tried booting with just the right side battery.

I have tried re-seating the entire unit...anything else I should try before calling 911?

We have found that some of the early RED battery mounts had a weak connection for the status info. In fact some of them were weak on all the connections, causing the camera to shut down when tapped or moved. RED changed the battery mount design and I believe it is available as an upgrade, although I don't know if there is a charge.

When we first tested the GP-TS-RED we thought there was a problem because we didn't get the info. Then we switched to another camera and it was fine. This repeated several times over and in all cases it turned out to be worn out RED battery mounts.

I have heard this too, but my mount has never given me an issue. 6 months in and dozens of shooting days.

As I said it worked fine yesterday? And last week. Don't know what is different today?

in fairness to Dylan his signature says cinematographer not handyman....

Vinny, how's the cabled version coming along?

sign me up as soon as!!

I seem to have solved this problem by simply unplugging the Lemo from the body and plugging it back in.

Thanks for the PMl Vinny.

Well, in the end the camera is a computer and like all computers sometimes they just get stupid.

I always love the movies with computers taking over the world. Obviously written by someone who never had his system crash or dealt with some fabulous Microsoft incompatibility issue.

David, you have summed up my experience with RED in one line!

Don' t get me wrong - I love the images!

That is the important thing.

Will the GP-TS-RED work properly with my EX1 while I wait to purchase a RED One?

If so, can it be used, and will it function correctly, with the standard Switronix V-Mount battery plate as seen here? Or will you guys be releasing an additional V-Mount battery plate for use with the GP-TS-RED?

M101.

The GP-TS-RED is the same as the standard GP-TS with the addition of a circuit that allows battery data to pass through to the camera. It will function the same as the GP-TS with other batteries or when used on other devices. If you have a box to allow the use of 14.4 V-mount batteries on your EX1 such as the unit made by Bebob (we sell these too, btw) then you can use your GP-TS-RED and even your RED Batteries with no issue. You can use it with the plate you linked to in your post. No problems.

I have a late model RED (#5166) and just recently received my GP-TS-RED a couple weeks ago and I have yet to get my brand new Bricks to pass battery data. I've tried sticking two fully charged units on at once, as well as sticking one fully charged brick on the right side and I still get DC. This is after countless tests on set. I've had to resort to just pressing the button on the bricks for battery info.

Do I have a bad GP-TS unit? The plastic v-mount casing was also bend on one side when I received it, which looked like it was not fully seated before getting screwed on during assembly.

Please send me an email or PM with your email address so that we can look into this for your with Switronix. The few people that have had issues have had them addressed quickly and effectively.

Thanks Mitch. I'll shoot the info your way.
