  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red Europe - it's Official.

Congratulation Mr. Jim and team, now make it happen that European orders ships from London, to help ease the tax burden.:help:

Will we able to trade in our REDs for credit at the Europe branch for the EPIC? :)

The tax burden will be the same - if there is one - whoever imports into Europe. One would hope that the shipping costs would be a bit less, perhaps. But I've never known a product that when it is sold here, is less than then the price in US plus shipping to here. So I'm quite happy to buy direct from Red US. Having said that, To be able to buy spares and accessories from London will be much quicker.

Are you sure?

Wikipedia says:
"With respect to travel between EU members where one is non-Schengen, there are identity (passport) checks, but no customs checks; this applies, for instance, between Ireland or the U.K. and the European Continent."

Ha!!!!

Try telling that tho the Customs scum at Dover!!!!

I regularly drive between the UK and Germany. And about 50% of the time I am made to either let there dog with muddy paws jump into the boot of my car and trample over everything, or unload stuff from the boot.

Do I sound bitter? Ooops, sorry :-)

Pinewood is a superb choice for a european base. It has a superb and well documented history as a centre of excellence for film making, you will also find when you visit many other excellent facilities.
Why are so many of our european neighbours complaining? Why all the politics? I have never had customs problems in europe.

And how can England not be part of europe?? where are we then?

RED is making a concerted effort to supply european customers with a more localised RED centre, that can only be good news for us all. If it had of been in Germany or france you can be sure i would have been just as pleased, congrats RED team and a great choice.

and also 5 weeks of holidays, 35 working hours per week and often no rights to give notice for the employer without major payouts, which hurts any business seriously. Did I forget about very high taxes?

not in this business, buddy.

You should open the "why most of us swiss people hate germans"-thread some place else ... :calm:

Ive never seen anything i ordered from London to Portugal get stuck at customs :) thats great news!!

England is part of the Maldives. It's just really really far away from the other islands.

Jarred, as for the bonfire pissers; I guess it's the nature of the beast, but it is a pretty ugly spectacle and quite unedifying. The recent examples, both here and the IMS thread are totally uncalled for, and frankly just nasty.

It's ok.. it doesnt bother us anymore... but we do have a little list of those people for when they call 1-800-HELP.

anyways... We know where our customers are and where the ratio of cameras reside... It only makes sense to have a service center closest to the majority of cameras. To put a service center in Belgium for example, as beautiful as the place may be, really doesn't make sense when there are only a handful of cameras there, and not a whole lot of films being shot there ( in comparison ) that need servicing...

made my day

made my day

This news made my day.
Since my RED arrived many people started to want "her", so many that i started getting nervous about something going wrong for whatever reason.
Now i know the "accelerated emergency repair program" will make me sleep better  !

I'm still flabbergasted at the whingeing on this thread - this is great news that Red have delivered what we've all prayed for, namely a European service centre, and like others I would have been more than glad if it had been anywhere in Europe. We've previously had our camera go back to Red in the U.S. for repair, which they did comparatively quickly considering the distance involved, but now the idea that it can be quickly fixed and/or upgraded (especially with the new audio & i/pin upgrade) is just fantastic news and very reassuring for potential clients/productions etc. Even if Red opened up a second centre if Germany you'd still get pathetic posts whining about why they didn't choose France...or Italy...or Spain...or Norway...perhaps Red should open up centres on every high street in every land...or even better - next door to every Red owner...get real!!!

Great news, I could literally drive there in half an hour to drop my camera off for the upgade :-)
