  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New: public beta of Clipfinder 2.1 - the render features you requested

Hans,

Thank you so much for this wonderful app. I was having the same issues and this appears to have fixed it. It's rendering now. One other issue I'm having is that the thumbnails don't update after I've adjusted them in RA. I've closed down the project and re-opened it and after ALT-CMD-A it still stays the same.

best regards,
jeremy

Forgive me for asking, but did you press ALT-CMD-A in REDAlert or in Clipfinder ?

The render did work by the way and it used the RSX info, including IN/OUT points. But the thumbnail is still the same.

Hans,

This app is wonderful and it is a massive help for organization and workflow. I have no idea if this would be possible, but it would be great if there was an option to save small reference thumbnails with the clipfinder project. That way, if you've archived your clips and they are all offline, you could still have a visual representation of what is in the project. Needless to say, the program is already great as it is. Thank You.

best regards,
jeremy

I'll see what I can do.

Cheers,
Hans

Russ, Noah,

I'm not sure I understand what kind of integration you are thinking of.
Can you outline a scenario of how the tasks would be divided between Clipfinder and Crimson and REDCine (?) and REDAlert(?) ?

Regards,
Hans

Curious...does the rendering engine work any faster than RED Rushes if we're using the same settings?

REDRushes and Clipfinder both use the same render engine, RED's command line render tool REDline. Thus, there shouldn't be any speed difference. That being said, Clipfinder has the slight advantage of giving you control over the number of simultaneous rendering task, which may allow you to optimize render performance for your particular system configuration. Deanan from RED posted somewhere that he might add this feature to REDRushes as well.

Cheers,
Hans

Ah...thanks...and darn. I would love to use RED Rushes and we probably will for 90% of what we do. But man, does it take a LONG time to render.

Thanks!

Kevin

With Clipfinder, you still need to render out the whole clip if you are using the FCP xml route. Would be nice to be able render out only the portion of the clip used in the edit together with handles if needed to reduce render times. Crimson offers up this ability through Redcine, but was wondering if a similar route can be had with Clipfinder. Edl support would also be a huge help for offline/online work on other editing platforms.

I was planning to extend the conform feature as a next step after putting in rendering support. However, with the recent speculation about what the next FCP version may offer, I'm wondering whether that still makes sense.

Another possible next step would be the integration of basic corrections (essentially the same you have in REDAlert right now) into Clipfinder.

EDL support for other editing platforms is unlikely as that would mean I'd need to buy these other platforms (there is no point in developing for something you cannot test). Also, doesn't Monkey Extract do just that ?

What do you guys think ?

I've done a good bit of testing and renders on all are still VERY slow. I'm really hoping RED can get things much closer to real time...

Very cool, thanks again.
I love the new Render options.

I found one bug so far : The "scale mode" option doesn't seem to work, when I try to render SD I always get letterbox, even when I select 'stretch'.
(on v2.1 Beta 4)

The dynamic debayer resolution is awesome, and the 'pause' button too.

Nils.
