  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Arrow 55 Group Buy?

We'll have some fresh numbers soon. Sorry I've been away for the weekend or I would have explained things a bit, although LOWKUS did a fairly good job of it and he is the one who started the whole thing.

We have our dealer rates from Miller, and yes, Miller is contractually bound to sell their product only through their dealer network. But we wanted to set up some special pricing based on a group buy. So we're trying to come up with a few products that people would like that we'll then be able to purchase in bulk from Miller and extend the extra discount to you the client. This is not smoke and mirrors, it really is about getting you a better deal. We'll be trimming our margins a bit to help facilitate the deal.

So here's the basic packages I was thinking and we'd like to know if this is what the Majority of people are in fact interested in, as that's the point of a bulk purchase deal. We'd have to have a few set kits with no substitutions and any additional items would be at our standard (but low) discounted rates. Please tell us what you think.

- Arrow 55 head with double-stick carbon fiber legs, ground spreader and a soft bag. Big question is would people rather have a mid-level spreader? That's actually easier but I was under the impression that most would want the ground version.

- Arrow 55 head with Solo ENG legs and a soft bag.

- DS-60 head with carbon fiber legs, mid-level spreaders and a hard case. I really like this kit for RED; much beefier than the Arrow 55.

Really, we're hear to serve you guys. Tell us what you'd like. Any quotes up until now have been prior to a group buy. Once this is in place (I'll announce the deal here) clients should contact us for updated pricing.

And yes, the deals will be available worldwide.

That's the one I'd be interested in...

I notice all the stick options are carbon fiber. Can the carbon fiber stand up to the same levels of abuse that aluminum sticks can take?

Yes, if fact in many ways carbon fiber is tougher than aluminum.

Can we start costings on solo setup and go from there? I would hope miller sees this as more than just an opportunity to sell some product but potentially get some great marketing from this deal. This is a great time to get proactive and penetrate a very difficult market some more, a market i may add, that is rapidly evolving.

The idea of a group buy is that we need a large number of people to come in on the deal in order to get better pricing. Miller won't be able to give us a better rate and Abel won't be able to trim our margin unless we know there will be enough volume. Three or four tripods is not a group buy; that's just every day sales. It looked like we had about 15-20 people interested but so far I've heard from only a handful once I asked the specifics of what people might want. Let me try again:

- Arrow 55, 2-stage carbon fiber legs, mid-level spreader and softbag. I'm looking for input on whether people would prefer ground spreaders to the mid-level. Only one would be included in the kit and the other would be available as an option, so I'll make the choice on my own if no one tells me.

- Arrow 55, Solo ENG legs, softbag.

- Miller DS60 head, 2-stage carbon fiber legs (150mm ball), mid-level spreader, hard case.

Tell me what you think and if you're interested. If I don't hear thoughts from the peanut gallery soon I'll go with my instincts and set this up. Just want to give you guys what you're asking for.

I'm In...

I'm really more interested in a Cartoni because of the continuous counterbalance (that's what my current tripod/head is, though not rated for the weight of a RED). However, if the price was right I would look seriously at the Miller.

I need head ONLY, however, so I'm not sure that I would fit well with what you guys are trying to put together.

I'm sort of on the fence about what to get. My gut is telling me to go with the Solo legs, even though they won't work as well for studio work I'm thinking portability might be more important than the extra stability of the other legs. I think ultimately my leg decision would depend on what the price is going to be for the options. I'll probably go with whatever is cheapest.

For those who don't need legs, I think you can get the head by itself in this deal (verify with Mitch though). I once thought about getting just the head and then building some wooden sticks for it... maybe I'll build some studio sticks out of wood and then just use the Solo legs for traveling.

so. I'm interested... but also need something super small and light to travel with... anyone know a still camera head that can support upto 25 pounds?

I think some visuals would be good. I know Gibby loved this head. I think that I will too... but for trip I'm taking out to Europe over the next 3 months, I'm trying to decide if the arrow 55 will be light enough...
