Birger Lens Mount Reservations

nokia love?
E71... kicks the crap out of 3g iphone.

Nokia E71 is a "smart" phone for dummies in pro world.

iPhone has such a huge lead and will remain very long to rule 3Gs.

Sadly, iPhone SDK only support Headset profile, with no support whatsoever for SPP. You have no idea how disappointed I am with Apple after just having bought my iPhone to develop some of these apps. In theory it could be done with a jail-broken phone, but...

I knew there was a reason I stick to Linux... Buying the iPhone just reinforced it. :ranting2:

HTC TyTN has all what iPhone is missing and and everything what iPod is.

I do not understand why people are so set on iPod when here is a product much better out there since the long time.
Must be this Apple thing:-)

I haven't tried the HTC phone, but as a longtime Apple user, I'm always shocked whenever I use a non-Apple product (computer, PMP, phone, whatever) at just how BAD it is in terms of intuitive UI and general usability. This phenomenon has been almost universal for me.

I am amazed at the sheer range of subjects covered in this thread...

Keeps us busy while waiting...

I'm with Akabaka on this one. I have had to use numerous Windows PCs over the years for specific applications - Pinnacle Aladdin, CAD programs, CNC control, etc. - and it is always painful compared to working with the MAC. I once did a calculation that many millions of man hours and billions of dollars had been lost between 84 and 95 just from the silly 8 character file names, where your PC file would be: ltrakiph.doc and on a mac it would be: letter to akabaka re iphone 491.doc - a whole lot easier to find and be sure it was the right one.

iPhone has a touch screen, but otherwise Nokia communicators are technically quite a lot more advanced. Email, bluethooth etc. are rather old stuff now. Apple, however, manages to market old stuff as new.

iphone is the most "pathetic" wannabe "smart" phone.
nokia communicators are one of the best and smartest phones out there. the E71 is the latest nokia is offering.

Though, if software is to be made for handheld use.. PDA's are the best bet. Because they are "pocket PC's."

In the interest of open-mindedness, I watched a walkthrough of the E71 here...

Sorry, Akube -- and no offense to your countrymen, Lauri -- but that shit looks like it's from 1997. I can't imagine having to click 100 times just to get around the menus... and you have to push a button to move the 'cursor' a few pixels?? And if you don't care how small your buttons are, why not cram a full-sized keyboard on that puppy?

To each his own I guess. :)

This thread is amazing

This thread is about to reach 3,000 posts. I am a little amazed.

i phones are cute and sliding finger feature is nice but yea i need a tool... Pocket pc is much much more preferable to me. lot more programmers available, cheaper and more simple like XDA etc... Apple does have the best marketing hands down though.

I think I predicted (hoped) that is would never reach the third Millennium. I am almost certainly wrong. The good thing is Birger is shipping in bulk. Many of us (long time believers) will not gain a great deal (time wise) from the people that ordered last week, but we will all be shooting with canon glass very soon. Thank you Erik, Jim, Jared and anyone else who contributed.

The games have already begun.

Akabaka, yeah, and I also preferred bigger keyboard than that in E71. But, there are many other models. My point was, that here people find iPhone advertising amusing and for a reason. For instance, my wife has had Nokia E70 for two years. Its has gsm, gprs, 3g, wlan, bluethoot, a camera, access to email, internet almost whatever, and yes, in addition to the number pad a keyboard that can be twisted and which is a bigger one than in E71. Still, it's a small and light phone.

Getting back to the point of the Birger thread, I've been thinking of programming a Nokia Internet tablet or a communicator to control the Birger mount. The internet tablets have also a kind of small joystick, and the operating system is Linux, which makes programming easier.

Sorry, but that is just not true... I have my 2nd TyTN in less than a year now, and they break down, hang and are quite buggy beasts.

I thought like you and (shame on me!!!) made 3 of my cooperates buy TyTN because iPhones could not be mature...

The ones buing iPhones in the meantime have had a working tool in development, much like the RED... :)

No, I'm not a iPhone convert, yet... But to compare it to TyTN is silly...

Back OnTopic

Any reports on how people like their Birgers? (Been away for a while...)

So, any chance I could get my mount (and maybe the follow focus) before the 30th of this month?

Erik - I just came back from a stereo (3D) shoot with Julian's 1373 & 1374 and we had an interesting idea:

Would it be possible to make a two mounts calibrated and controlled by single knob for identical focus on both cameras and another knob for identical zoom on both cameras? We are perfecting our 3D custom rig and this would mean we could get two extra mounts specially modified for this...

Is this doable? And more importantly - would You be willing to make this for us? Please let me know via PM or e-mail...

Thank You

Peter
