  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Has anyone recieved the microMatteBox for Red One?

Im starting to think it's only a myth. Some claim to have seen it, some claim to have it but the majority just keep waiting without a clue when they will actually get one in their hands. It's quite annoying.

We've had a couple of these come through the shop in the last week or so as people receive the matteboxes and then realize they need some little bit here or there to make it work with their gear. I have not had the time to personally try fitting an Arri filter tray or rear bellows to the mattebox, as is claimed they will fit. But they do exist.

I would love to hear if you could get the bellows to fit and how since the RR Matee box doesn't have the bearings. If you do that, I promise to buy the bellows form Abel Cine.

I was wondering how it would mount without bearings as well. If someone wants to set up a time with me to bring his/her mattebox over, I'd be happy to test it out.

BTW, the new Arri matteboxes & followfocus units are arriving at last --just a few weeks away. They're REALLY nice and are arriving with some extra surprises that I can't yet share but promise will make everyone happy.

The mattebox holds two 4x5.65 filters with the rear stage rotating. It can work as a clip-on or rod mount ( lightweight 15mm, but can accept standard adapters). It covers the 18-50. The follow focus is insanely adjustable, can squeeze around lenses large and small, and accepts standard accessories (standard ARRI gears, whips and cranks). It will ship with a standard film pitch gear. It mounts to 15mm lightweight rods, but again, standard adapters will fit.

Price is not official yet, but it will definitely be under $4K for the set, and this includes other accessories as this set is meant to go with the Sony EX1 & EX3, which means that there's a baseplate and geared lens ring that you can turn into some nice paperweights. You will be able to purchase the units on their own, but I don't know pricing yet.

And I can tell you that there are some items and features that I can't tell you yet but will be of great interest to people on this forum. When the official release occurs I'll fill everyone in.

I saw them at Cinegear. They're both great and I'll probably get the follow focus. Anyone in the New York area with a Red Rock Matte box should take Mitch up on his offer. The answers would be good for everyone.

I promise everyone that when I receive my RR mattebox, I will post a generous amount of pics.

anyone with a red bundle receive shipping notification yet?

anyone think they're gunna complete shipping ALL their orders by August 1st? ;)

I' sure Brian and Co are doing the absolute best they can, but obviously it's frustrating for everyone.
