  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Anyone regret the LCD?

I was torn between ordering Red's LCD or going third party. I finally decided to order Red's but it's been a week and it still hasn't shipped.

I'm considering canceling the order and going with something with a peaking assist but thought I'd ask for feedback first.
 
It's not only one of the sharpest LCDs I've seen at its size, but it is ridiculously light (weight). You won't regret it.
 
The advantage the Red LCD has over anything else is that it has integrated menu and feedback display. You won't get that from any HD-SDI monitor. The only 3rd-party monitor that might come close is the Carrion from reduser "Siniarch".
 
it's damn fine! it could use a little better viewing angle, but other than that it's amazing.
 
It's fantastically lightweight and daylight-viewable. Narrow viewing angle and banding are problems, but I think of it more as a framing tool and informational display, rather than an engineer's monitor.
My only complaint is that right now you cannot see both the Red LCD and an external 720p feed to an HD monitor. That would be a great combo and I would hope to see it enabled soon.

Are you saying it beats transvideo ? That would be contrary to a lot of reports.

For anyone interested, I'll be getting the LS Design Carrion (Siniarch's monitor, as mentioned earlier) - primarily due the fact that the Red LCD is proprietary.

I'll be more than willing to do a side-by-side test with a Red LCD if someone is willing to help me out with one for a day (there are plenty of cameras in London, so shouldn't be a problem). We'll get our Red kit (#1083) pretty soon, so let me know if it's something folks here would be interested in...
 
I've decided to purchase the LS Design as well due to the viewing angle and use on other then Red. Of course it's heavier and will require battery to operate.

I am sure it has been covered somewhere, but does anyone know the size of the lcd screen? The reason being, we need to get a hoodman for it for field work. Has anyone used a hoodman or something like it with the RED LCD yet?

Perhaps Siniarch can come up with a D-Tap power cable; I'm running my BT-LH80 off of a D-Tap to XLR power cable so no additional battery is needed.
 
I'm getting a LS Design carrion as well. The specs match and some areas exceed the panasonic $4,000+ version. I will be doing tests and shoot a video on how it works with the red, an action cam and a HVX.

I have a good feeling the carrion could be the best LCD option on the market.
 
Siniarch is a cool dude, and I am sure his lcd is fantastic.
but, since I'll be doing a lot of hand held work I decided to go with Red.
the weight is an issue for me.
