  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I would like to ask for help with this, because everything else is working perfectly on Raptor. I get a video signal on Sdi-1 port but no video on Sdi2 port

(new firmware 1.4.4)

if I duplicate the sdi-1 port(port cloning), it doesn't work either

I had this too. Was a quick fix at a service centre. There has been talk (started by Arri) about removing the SDI lead before powering up or down otherwise it could damage the board. I always thought it was one of those things that was a theoretical problem but in practice not worth worrying about....but I have started doing it just in case.

One thing that I did learn, and that is a good thing, is that when one port blows it doesn't mean both are blown - they are separate, so you can still use the other one and carry on working.

I had to have my camera sent to RED to fix this issue as well.
I was told /and Ill probably get it wrong but someone will correct and then we will be better for it...
You need to power up the camera first until its fully booted then turn on your monitor.. this can all be done while everything is plugged in but if you turn on your monitor first there might be issues...
Don't ask me why there is any possibility that power or what ever could travel through your SDI and cook your out put is beyond me.. I don't know why there wasn't some protection built in to that circuit on the SDI's to keep this from happening. Like I said Im probably getting this wrong.
I had the issue happen best I can figure when I had my camera in a Underwater housing and had everything powering up off of the same on off switch at the same time.. So when you flipped the switch it basically powered the camera and monitor on at the same time... Thats the only thing I can think of that we did over the course of 2 months of production that meets this power camera or monitor on first and then the other..

The correct order is to power up camera and monitor / evf first and only then connect SDI cable. Then disconnect the SDI before powering down camera and monitor. I gather this first came from Arri as a warning and is a problem mostly due to 12G SDI, which is why it seems to be a relatively new thing.

Its not a talk they already did it.
Alexa 35 have user replaceable SDI connectors now.

Honestly this seems like a lot to do considering all the electronic advances we have in our cameras now... Couldn't there be just some sort of breaker or circuit that would detect or dis engage when it detected an issue... Kind of like a GFCI plug almost instantly clicks off when detection.???

That's what I thought - because if you lose your SDI inputs you're pretty much screwed! And that's why it was a relief that at least if you blew one it didn't damage the other one.

We has same issue with our Raptor .
Only Odyssey 7 by Convergent Design can show image from SDI 2 .
Blackmagic design DECKLINK Extreme 4K displays distorted images.
All other SDI devices report NO SIGNAL
It started since the firmware was updated from 1.1.2 to 1.2.5

Earlier ( with Red ONE ) we never has issue with HDMI and SDI outputs port.
We used 25 meters HDMI cables and 100 meters of SDI cables.
Wireless video was not yet available.
All outputs was like bulletproof.

Later ( with EPIC - DSMC 1 ) we had problems with HDMI.
Out of 7 devices 4 were sent for repair due to a burnt HDMI output.
But SDI ( 3G ) output was still indestructible ( immortal :congratulatory: ).

The newly developed SDI outputs (6G and 12G) are very fragile .

**** UPDATE ****

Despite all the precautions and the dances of the sorcerer, both SDI ports are stopped to working today.
I think RED needs to recall all DSMC 3 cameras and replace the internal SDI board with the same as in DSMC2.
