Hey guys,

what’s the best way to get the sdi port fixed and relative cost?

I had no problem running it with 12g cables to a 7 inch monitor for almost 2 years but lately have had more set ups with a teradek and I feel like that lemo connection to the teradek is the culprit. Having v mount power the camera through the older tilta plate and the dtap powering the teradek through Lemo.

curious what the common set ups are that toast the sdi.

thanks in advance-

Sorry about the blown port!

Basically, you want to avoid ungrounded equipment, unshielded cables, and d-tap in general (much as that's not always practical). And above all, follow the procedure for plugging in accessories! It's the only thing that ultimately protects your SDI port:

Thanks Harvey!

I knew there was a post in there buried somewhere. I had been so lucky for 2 years running it till alas it finally happened. Lots of good tips in there.

I had some other issues going on and it was around the holidays so 3 weeks but I very much suspect it would be much quicker if that’s all you are having them do. I was impressed by their responsiveness from a communication standpoint.

Is it not possible for RED to build an isolator or shield of some sort into the Komodo itself? Seems to be a long trail of people who have fried their SDI.

About every bit of space in the camera is being used so I don’t believe that they could make it work without making the camera bigger. I’ve seen people fry ports on a handful of cameras and no company really seems to care to build that into the camera. My suspicion is that it would bloat the area around the port and make it hard to add additional ports around it.

if you want 12G SDI, this is just part of it. Almost any case of this happening is due to user error. Be smart about protocol and don’t cheap out on cables. Make sure they’re secure and you’ll be totally fine.
