New RED Komodo 1.70 Beta Firmware Released!

What improvements, if any did you notice? RED claims "improvements" but they are unspecified.

Oddly, Balkum doesn't mention face detection at all in his video.

I still have to look at the footage on the computer, but I see no improvement. Then again, I’m shooting with the Canon 35mm f/1.8 macro, which is supposed to be among the worst as far as AF goes. You might record 30 seconds where it tracks great, then do another clip where you can’t even get it to lock on the face.

Thanks for that, Brian. I'll be sharing my first test of the autofocus with the Komodo beta firmware and RED Control app FW 1.9.2 later today and do another test tomorrow with the new RED Control firmware update 1.9.6.

Great to hear Jon. I do follow your tests on YT so look forward to your findings.
I plan on doing some tests on the weekend including Christmas.

Cool that these upgrades were released right before the end of the year which is usually
a good time to regroup from shooting.

Here's the first AF test I did this morning with the beta firmware and RED Control ver. 1.9.2. Best watched in HDR, even though the video itself has not been graded at all and isn't very HDR. hehe

It's not bad at all. . . until it's awful in that last location change. But that sequence where you were practically dancing is WAY better than I could ever do pulling focus.
