  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Groupbuy for the Action Products Actioncam "RED" Edition

Yes, I am very interested in finding out if I can send my money to Actioncam before the end of the day tomorrow (12/31) to take advantage of the write-off for this year.

I would like to use a credit card, if possible.

Any thoughts?

Stephen

My accountant, and posts elsewhere on this site, indicate that the item has to be "put into use" before the end of the year to qualify as a deduction. Might want to check with your accountant, just to be sure.

this is correct.

From Bankrate.com website:

"Small businesses benefit from Section 179 deduction
Bankrate.com

Typically, if property for business has a useful life of more than one year, the cost must be spread across several tax years as depreciation with a portion of the cost deducted each year.

But there is a way to immediately receive these income tax benefits in one tax year. The provisions of Internal Revenue Code Section 179 allow a sole proprietor, partnership or corporation to fully expense tangible property in the year it is purchased."

Technically, the "placed in service" by December 31 is the correct definition, but for all practical purposes, the purchase date is actually the date that the IRS uses in these cases, as it is the only date that anyone can ever cleanly trace back. Even a shipping receipt is not definitive proof, as it is possible that purchased equipment received in July was not actually used (actually "placed in service") until the following January.

In any case, the difference is simply the present value of the expense for one year. On a $10,000 Actioncam, at a 35% tax rate (Feds, state, local), the tax savings is $3500 in 2007 tax year versus the 2008 tax year, at 5 percent interest, is only $175.

Hi Phan

Yes, we call it "360" and basicly it the same cage - without the motor. You can adjust the angle and lock it tight. The price is: 2500.-USD (not cheap, but keep in mind, that you can adjust the angle, update to 360Xtreme and very soon even make a full remote head out of it)

And yes, you can use other low mode cages on the ActionCam like the glidecam lowmode.

Brian

Hi Brian,

I'd be really interested in the 360 if it could also be upgraded to make it a full remote head. That makes it a very versatile piece of equipment--low mode, 360Xtreme, and Remote Head.

When do you think you'll have this ready? Do you have any pics of the remote head setup? Cost?

It looks like I'm going to be in the group buy for the zero-g and a number of accessories. I keep adding to my buy list. :whistling: Don't tell my wife.

The remote head version needs to be finished by march - I have a costumer who needs it for a long term project. Our remote head will be position driven - this means, you will control the remote head just like the camera is on a tripod and the remote head will follow your moves. The price is not set - below 8'000.- I hope:)

Order placed with Brian and paid with my good ol' Mastercard on 12/31. What did we do before credit cards and Paypal???

Happy New Year, all. . .

Hi Brian,

I have also sent a confirmation, but have not yet heard from anyone. Just want to make sure I'm in before the deadline.

Abu, sorry I haven't gotten back to you. Your post on reduser confirms you are in for the groupbuy. Expect and invoice within the next 2-3 days.

I also apologize to everyone else, with the holidays and mynewborn #102 things have been hectic. I will get back to everyone shortly.

Just wondering if anyone in the group buy has recieved their actioncam rigs yet? And if they had any thoughts on their experience with their rig or the company yet.

hey Tonaci,

I just got an e-mail from Brian's assistance and just want to make sure I don't double order ( for now at list) I wanted to get the first system as the basic unit but including the 360 piece, no motor as we know it is not available anyway till march.

Anyway shoot me an e-mail to arrange this as part of the group buy.

I know I could end up with 2 or 3 units but at list for now I want to get one right a way.

Can anybody who did attend the Lart event please tell me, if they know the Mk-V Ar revolution , how future proof this unit is. Does the 360 mode could acchieve similar results, because on the first sight the Mk seems much more complicated regarding the built , but in real world operation, could it be as stable and smooth.... This keeps me busy as prices are in a total different range, but I'm so impressed from the Mk-v demos on their sites, and the action doesn't have that kind of demo's listed on their site, I regret they haven't post any other video by now to convince us of their build quality and features.
¨Please if you have any experience, come back to me on this?......

I myself look at the MK-v AR system, and it is not compatible with the RED edition ActionCam system, this I was told directly from the guys of the MK-V AR.

I don't posses the full knowledge as other might have, but I can tell you this,

the operation system capacity of both systems are very close at the only and most evident difference been the price the ActionCam system with the Extreme 360 Zero-G could hit the $30,000.00 wile the MK-V AR could likely hit the $50,000.00 to $70,000.00.

I have learned from RED evolution and revolution, that some time it is not how much a product cost and how fancy and complicated a product looks, but it is how it functions, in this I believe from what I have seen at LART and in Brian's specs and small (too small ( video that his product will be of very similar quality and workflow capacity but at likely less then half the price tag.

I also think that what is important is the size/weight of this ActionCam system ( it is surely for me and my F%##%# UP knee ) when compared to other systems.

Below are few shots from LART, I don't have the ones with the Actioncam actually in "ACTION" as those photos were part of the 500 plus photos lost on the reformatted cards used on Manny's camera, but I did see that wile using the ActionCam users were not leaning back as much.

Thx Mr. Ketch,

I was even told by mk it's about 130000$ or 89000€, these seems to be a lot more then what you're saying (this should include everything for a working red system is what Mr. Howard said.)
Then indeed such a price difference could make a big deal and the weight you're mentioning could make some benefits to me as well, cause I'm quiet small.

Hey Sven,

Please do drop the Mr.

you probably been quoted the fully loaded system, which I believe few professional Steady Cam operator will use in large budget motion pictures.

At this point I don't recall if the quote was for the basic system but if you stand correct then it was, and most certenly will make the Red ActionCam system even more of a no brainer for many if not all of as buying Steady Cam rigs.
