Hiya,
I was wondering what camera is the best for diving atm?
I hope to get a diving house at a point and I'm not too keen on getting it for our Heliums. I was considering either getting a used Monstro more likely a Raptor.
A few drawbacks I see with the Raptor:
- no underwater OLPF. Not sure how much that matters? (I wish they kept this concept it was so clever)
- Uses even more power.

Otherwise I guess its mainly benefits, higher frame rate, better in low light, lower temp I think so it will be more useful for other things we are filming too.

Best wishes,
Andreas

I sold my Monstro for a Raptor. Managed to get a "surf housing" for it but still looking for the best "diving housing" available.
Just because DSMC2 is on the market for longer and there's more accessories, it makes it easiest and more convenient to dive with it.
Right now, all the options I have or I'm working on are not as good as what I had for DSMC2.
I thought Raptor will save me weight and size when into a water housing but that's not the case.
It needs more batteries, more room for cables, weight is equivalent to DSMC2 but with extra accessories it makes the kit heavier and bulkier.
Anyway, no regrets but not easy.
I have a VV H2O OLPF and used it only when diving below 25m, above that, it's not useful.

Whats wrong with using the helium? Then you got the H2O OLPF.

Main reason to use Raptor would be the increase sensitivity. When I dive a bit deeper its always quite dark. Also the diving house is quite expensive so not overly keen on getting it for a form factor that is already on its way out. Of course would be cheaper with no upgrade and could possibly find a used diving house!

Understood. But yes there are plenty of good even used UV housings available for DSMC2 and for the same dollars you likely get a better such housing than one made especially for raptor. The difference in sensitivity between 8k DSMC2 and raptor is rather slim, if its dark / deep and you use the DSMC2 H2O Olopf that is not filtering away the red chanel so much then the difference will be even smaller.

Also for Raptor you need lenses that are FF, FF lenses by simple physics are slower than S35 lenses with the same FOV. so the sensitivity you gain on Raptor can likely be matched with a faster lens having the same fov using a Helium with the H2O Olpf.

But sure always nice to get the latest tech.

Yea, I will take a closer look. Especially if one can get a used housing it makes it easier. For lenses I mostly looked at Canons lenses for diving. 24-70 2.8, their ultra wide 11-22 F4, fisheye 8-15mm f/4, 16-35 2.8. Possibly Zeiss Otus lenses, mainly the 28mm but its not that wide.
What lenses would you pick?

Cheers,
Andreas

Depends on what you do of course but also very much what sensor you got as that makes a big difference. Monstro 50mm = Helium 35mm in fov.

But when diving with a s35 sensor a lot of people use the wide tokina zoom and similar. Preferably having something like a 14-25 zoom for s35.
