  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Video of "Crossing"...

I noticed on the 1k trailer of the crossing there seems to be a gamma shift at frame #785, at frame #802, at frame #859, and again at frame #1034. I've downloaded the trailer from a couple other locations, but it seems to be consistant through-out all the dl's. Has anybody else noticed this? I'm curious why the shift?

Colin

There were some problems in the conversion. We are doing it over and will post today or tomorrow. Sorry for that.

no apology neccesary, and not a crticism of the trailer. I'm not a DP, just work in post, and these things stick out to me :-) thanks for the quick response.

good eye Colin. I will let you guys know so you can swap out the mirrors as well with the new trailer.

sorry guys, I can't seem to stop starring at this, but one more quick question. Is the shift that happens on the isolated frames the true intended saturation of the image or is the lift through-out the more accurate representation of the image?

I also noticed that the dreaded Windows Quicktime Gamma Shift occurs since it's an independantly encoded H.264 quicktime.

I'm still awfully suspicious how Apple can encode properly for their trailers page but the rest of the world can't deliver a color accurate h.264 quicktime for the PC market.

Perhaps you should contact Oliver Stone, hash out a script, maybe Jeff Daniels could do Steve Jobs with a liberal dose of "the Dude" as an affectation...

Anybody have a working link ? I came late to the party.

I have asked the same thing myself many times in other forums!

Do Apples trailers look the same on both pc and mac? have they placed an extra tag in their QT's maybe? :-/

as for re-encoding.. feel free but just saying you know.. and its an encoding issue.. fine.. leave it.. still looks bleedin great!

hubickc,

I noticed the gamma dips as well, but figured those were likely post-workflow issues that have still to be worked out. My first thought was, "does Red One record superwhite?" as I have similar experience working with DV/HDV footage.

There is one dissolve where the saturation/hue shifts ever so slightly. Anyone catch that?

Wow... I keep watching this damn footage.. and I keep laughing in the faces of naysayers who told me that the camera was fake as I show them the new red footage, ala, Clockwork Orange style

Actually you don't need to be on a pc to have that f****** gamma shift happening. I get it each time I make a h.264 or when I encode a DVD on my G5.
That Apple gets away with it is a true subject of marvel to me.:ranting2:

Thanks Chas !

Truly amazing stuff. I smiled the whole time and can't wait to see what everybody ends up shooting when they first receive their cameras. Jarred thanks for taking the time to post this and thanks also to the mirrors.

Cheers -- Mike
