  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

A new chapter... or my last one?

Hear, hear! There is a place for everything in life....

Very True and seems like this is exactly the place for it.
Is it not called RED USER.
And since Red Users are people these are there thoughts.

Cameras don't shoot themselves it is up to people to
do something with them. The motorcycle news came out of
this as a vehicle for photo trips...and then people responded
with their own stories and advise.

Hey Ketch !
Ive had 32 +road / race bike accidents.. not to mention countless dirt bike off's !
Broken both legs ( a few times) arms, wrists, most ribs , collar bones.. etc etc etc etc etc....

Personally went to this thread first cause it's more
interesting than the tech ones. It's easier to just press the
button and let the camera do all the work than try to
intellectualize all of what's going on in there.

But if you want tech. there does seem to be a little bit of that here also.

Its in the off topic section. I don't see your problem.

Let's have all those that aren't Ketch start sharing their personal health stories, random life details and fantasies then see where RU goes. Just saying a bit of a filter might be a good thing to retain credibility and value in the RU Brand. I think Big Lou mentioned this about a year ago.

There are essentially two types of brains... left brain dominance seems to prefer analytical, objective, Sgt Joe Friday "Just give me the facts, ma'am."

Right brain dominance is more likely to respond to the story behind the facts, IMO.

An ideal brain has both sides so if we think of Reduser as having life-like qualities, it follows that it would embrace cold hard facts and warm fuzzy ones as well?

(Of course, left brainers may not agree. '-)

i agree, most new posts now are FS posts and honestly the whole red dress hype might have been the biggest RU work related story in the last months and still in in a way....and we all knew how that turned out....
on a personal note....i just do not understand how anyone in this medical situation can spend time buying toys to get killed...i would focus my energy on getting better...mentally and physically....and the whole "going out in a blaze" thing is a slap in the face to a sister who has risked her life keeping this one going....
i honestly wish everybody involved the best of luck and that this has a happy ending....

Having spent time with Ketch via PM I can assure you he is focused on getting better and is taking no chances with his health. I think the motorcycle reference was a knee-jerk reaction of defiance after getting some unexpected harsh news.

Having shot a short (Oh Christine!) after talent scratched at the last minute forcing me (actually allowing me) to shoot on a days notice using locals with no experience and not knowing their lines (we shot it line-by-line and I made a thousand cuts at least trying to keep it smooth). The young lady who played Christine (a young sleeper godlet who was made aware of her real self earlier than planned to get Heaven out in front of the Maya Calendar event) became sick with bronchitis after the day I had her for shooting and was unavailable for any retakes the following weekend. I went ahead and submitted it to the Shot on Red Festival with a note attached saying this was being submitted not for any prize consideration but for the sole purpose of pitching the story to any story scouts who might be in attendance.

It took courage on my part to submit a sub-standard piece but you never miss an opportunity to catch someone's eye. I'm sure Ketch knew at some level that his work was not up to par, but still he took the chance that someone would see his vision of the story.

I admit I haven't seen the "The Red Dress" short. Not important... there may be others (who aren't self-appointed members of the Critics Union, and are therefore not rushing to have their opinion blasted out in the harshest manner possible) who get what was intended and identify with the story.

But on the other side, opinions are assholes and assholes have assholes... or something like that. '-)

SPOT ON Elsie!!

Other then that, I fill no need to defend what I do or how I do it, not against the negative posters, I have learned my lesson already, and will NEVER again, engage with any of them, they are a hand full, and always the same names, they can post all that they want, I could care less, I am here for my friends, which I know personally, all of those that I have met at the various RED events, and any were else around the world, since end 06 beginning 07, I am here for all of those that care for my opinion, and those that have the decency to make even a negative Critique, in a respectful and civil way, I am here for RED, and the RED team, I am here for those that are here for me.

And while this might not be Facebook, thanks God for that, this is my home, it has been since end of 06 passing thru form DVX User in beginning of 07.

This is not Facebook, because in here I know literally 100's and 100's of fellow Reduser in person, and I post here when I have something to say related to the Gear, the Industry, in aiding any one in need of an answer, or giving advice when asked.

Then there has been many times when I needed advice and posted here to ask for that, as I am amongst friends, and professionals with various set skills, that can and have helped me many times in decision making about various things, directly and indirectly related and non related to Filmmaking.

LASTLY... I post personal matters here in the "OFF TOPIC" mind you!!

And when I have a personal problems, battling against such sever health conditions all by my self has not been easy in this past 8 years...

Posting here, and reading the "MORAL" support, advices, voices, opinions, of those that care, those that also might have been thru something similar, has and continues to help tremendously in the mist of this very difficult times...

This is why I post here...

Ketch, know you was one great inspiration for my life! Keep all your dreams, you can do that... All the best from Brazil!

Thanks João!!

And I am extremely happy to hear I had a positive impact on you, and very proud to see all that you have been doing!!

PS: Say hi to your father for me, such a great man!!

Spot on!

It's ridiculous that this man is now asking everyone to feel sorry for him after the whole RU debacle. What if you're ill..? No one really cares mate, they only pretend they do, in a internet forum kind of way!

Get a life.

Wow! Even if I were someone who held these same thoughts, I wouldn't want this post on my permanent record.

Exactly. So I'll let the post stand.

As someone who knows Ketch personally, I can say that he is indeed passionate about everything he does and he dreams big. Really big. When things don't go his way, as they often do not, I don't see where that gives others the right to belittle him or stomp all over him… in an internet forum kind of way.

Jeff, was it you who removed his last post about getting "knocked the fuck out"? I just had to take a print screen of it. The rudest thing I have encountered on this forum.

The difference between being a scam and being someone passionate with much to learn is the fact that Ketch "did it". One might not like his work, point flaws, criticize it. But its no scam. The difference between a doer and a scam is that one. Ketch can and will improve and I truly believe he will try again, this time better, learning from his mistakes. Thats how its done. And I believe he really means on his Perseverance. So i await for his next chapter with antecipation. Go Ketch!

Please post it back then. I wrote it so that it could be read, not deleted.

You people should pay more attention to actions than words. I don't have any beef with Ketch personally, I'm sure he's a sound guy, but as far as being a scam here on the forum, that's a fact. A lot of young folks come here to learn, and Ketch is always so forceful in shaping their opinions, in my humble opinion he should have more of an ethical concern when doing so. Because I'm sure he knows that he knows nothing, really. It's obvious, every sentence he writes proves that, its just hype. How come he has the moral fibre to tell people that are learning what's right and wrong?

Also, that kind of behaviour is extremely arrogant, its very unfair to younger people that come here to learn, and that one of the first and 'fact free' people they meet is Ketch. Its so unfair. So, yes, people like Ketch should either be humble or stay out of the 'teaching' game. He does it for his ego. Not for the good of the community. Even a blind man can see this.

His short film 'The Red Dress' has done more harm to Red than anything else in recent years. Ketch is an internet joke by now because of it and Red is stuck to that. I'm not being fictitious, it's a fact. Search the web. But I do feel that he deserves everything that is coming to him. He call it on himself!!!

The truth defends itself my dear forum members.

So, in closure, I still think is ridiculous that Ketch is coming on here asking for mercy, claiming he is unhealthy. This is a camera forum. Most people here didn't help him on his short, now they're acting like guardian angels... hypocritical. Ketch should leave his personal life and problems out of public affairs. But that's my opinion...

This whole thing is sad. Just sad.

Having said that, nothing gives me more joy than seeing someone else's downfall.

(Shocking how I can even put these sentences together. I should burn in hell)

Get a grip people.

Antonio, I think you doubled down (from your first post which by comparison seemed mild compared to this one and the one deleted) when the deck is against you.

I think your statement that RED Studios Hollywood suffered by association, is only perhaps true among the Internet Great Unwashed. Folks who take baths know that the Studio was only provided as a favor to a long time customer and friend. No endorsement was made or implied, AFAIK.

Ketch arrogant? Maybe in a parallel universe but not in this one... unless you have a very low threshold for identifying arrogance. Plus, I didn't see his Original Post as being a call for mercy but rather a way of handling some bad news. Some people internalize... others live openly and handle life's lemons by making lemonade.

Ketch is just one of those people who lives their life out loud.

But you may be suspicious that he is being less than forthcoming. Sometimes our suspicions are based on how we fear we might act in a similar situation. With no proof, we should probably keep those suspicions private, IMO.

Lastly, the implications are that the short "The Red Dress" is poison to anyone associated with it... I disagree. Bzzzz Bzzzz Bzzzz of anykind is golden. '-)

The hope is that anyone trying to educate oneself in any forum would never take the word of one particular poster. They would do their research. In the cinematography world they would seek samples of the persons work, their reel, their IMDB [although this can be limiting for commercial work].

That is the best thing about the internet, you can search. Anything that Toia writes has so much value because you are one click away from his amazing work.

The worse thing about the internet is that you can say anything and claim you do everything. You can be a liar, manipulate and be dishonest because you are not face to face with people. No one is there to call you on your bullsh*t. One of the more obvious manipulations is using personal problems for sympathy.

It's a mistake for companies to associate themselves so closely with charlatans.

I think it was P. T. Barnum who said something to the effect "I don't care what they say about me as long as they spell my name right." Bzzz Bzzz Bzzz.
