Hello all!

On my 2 last threads, i was talking about a new Sandisk Cf card designed for 4k Cinema

http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?107628-New-generation-of-Cf-cards-why-don-t-use-it

http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?107629-New-generation-of-Cf-cards-why-don-t-use-it

And i was wondering if it was Red one compatible or not. Guess what? i've just discovered this Table compatibility from the official Sandisk site, they say that their new Compact flash card is Red one compatible!! Is that real?!

http://www.sandisk.com/\Assets\Docs\Pro-Video_CompatibilityTable_2013Q3_FINAL_LowRes.pdf

It would be a life saver for new Red one users like me since Red doesn't sell Red one SSD module anymore.. Until now, the only solution we had was to buy the 16Gb Red Cf card, and like you already know, these card are toys and joke more than a serious media proposition..

Again, is that crazy news real ?!

I shall believe it when I see it but it would be awesome for RED ONE owners who don't have the SSD module. I guess we'll have to wait on an official statement from RED and whether or not they will lock out the cards from being used with the camera with the next firmware update. Needless to say, I must remind anyone and everyone who is considering using these cards to buy ONLY from an official source. No Amazon Marketplace, no eBay, no Craigslist, and no Habeeb's HD Video store in Brooklyn. Because Sandisk cards are now made in China, they are counterfeited more than ever. If you want to buy these cards, buy straight from Sandisk, Best Buy, or one of the official Sandisk retailers.

I wasn't aware they sold out of Red One SSD modules, ouch that was a great way to move forward with the new media! As far as "official" Red certified, you can use any CF card. They will only certify ones they feel are 100 percent safe and tested, but its not like you can't experiment on your own. I mean heck its an EOL out of warranty camera, go crazy! Also if CF cards aren't your thing spring for a used Red Drive or 2, sure it could drop frame or die on set, but for non critical shooting where you can redo a shot, its a heck of a lot easier, assuming you can offload it safely and back it up sooner then later and scrub for IQ issues...

I think they should bring back the RED Drive (with SSDs of course) since that would likely be easier to make than the SSD module though I am sure everyone would rather have the SSD module. But if they have indeed gotten the latest generation of CF cards from Sandisk to work with RED ONE, then that's good enough for me.

Non Red approved CF cards will be limited to 2K resolution recording.

Hello all, Sandisk told me by Phone that tests were made but they will confirm me that by mail today or tomorrow..
@Per Von Koch, which Lexar did you use? Was it with the Red one Mx? What you say here is a pretty damn good news my friend..

I used Lexar cards and recorded 4K back in the days... Or were they approved by RED?

A particular model of 8GB Lexar cards were compatible with 4K, but only because the original Red 8GB CF cards were hand picked ones of that model which met the continuous write speed specs of Red.

Impressive specs. 65MB/s sustained data rates. Spec'd for 4K. If Red approves this I would be tempted to put my CF module back on the camera. If Sandisk makes these as reliable as their 64GB 95MB/s SD cards I think it would be a very viable solution.

Guess we need to wait on the official word from Red and Sandisk. It might be that they are listing Red One as compatible with the 2K limitation.

Yes, it was the 8gb cards.

The RED cards were made by Micron (Lexar's parent company) so they were one and the same initially but then RED further customized them and changed the camera firmware to only use RED CF cards. Then they opened up recording at low data rates with third-party CF cards.

So according to some people here, there is a firmware limitation on the Red one right? Ok, but since Red does offer no real Media solution for the red one (no more SSD modules for sale), THEY HAVE to unlock this option.. This new generation of Cf cards is more than fast enough for the Red one, so the question i'm asking myself right now is: "WHERE ARE YOU RED MATES?" Don't let us down, we need you on this..

1-2 years ago, there was some talk about a CF to SSD adapter for the RED EPIC.

Is it still in the cards? That would be great.

I see CF capacities are getting bigger and bigger (256GB etc). Is write speeds are also getting better and better, perhaps they'll become a cheaper option to SSD cards even on Scarlet/EPIC (with the above-mentioned adapter).

Just throwing it out there!

Red Kindly answered to my mail, here is what they said :

Hello Nabil,
Thank you for contacting RED SUPPORT.
We are doing great, how are you?
The largest capacity compact flash cards we offer for the RED ONE are 16GB at this time. We do not have any approved third-party compact flash cards, and have not tested with these particular cards from your provided link. Unfortunately as you mentioned, we no longer sell the RED ONE 1.8" SSD MODULE, however you may be able to find one second-hand through online sources such aswww.REDuser.net along with our previous forms of media such as the RED DRIVES.
We appreciate you taking the time to provide us with your feedback, and will be more than happy to pass your feedback along to our engineering team for review. If I hear of any new updates I will let you know immediately.
Thank you very much!

We all know that, and what they suggest is not really "solid". I' m sure it's just about an option to unlock, again, do something please, i have a professional shoot in two weeks and i don't want to rent an other camera whereas i already have one, it would be insane..

Above all, we are a lot new owners here, and we need that

Waiting to test..

This would quite literally be the biggest thing for me for my reds. Owning two RED MX cameras and no way to upgrade to the Epic right now, being able to record on something with more than 16gigs on it would change my world. I could not get the SSD so I have two MXed red ones with SDs.

I am really hoping this becomes an option. It'd be the best red news for me all year haha.
