  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

ProLine Film Gimbal co-developed by me :)

Very exciting David.

Any thoughts on existing Raven owners? ;)

I see there is a reduced discount for only purchasing the gimbal. That said, it sounds like the vest and arm (raven?) are valued at only $2500 for group buy (50% off 15K = 7.5K & gimbal price is 5K)

Is that correct? While I'm certainly not complaining, I'd have thought the vest and arm might command a higher percentage off the gimbal only price given that Raven's MSRP is 10K if I'm not mistaken.

Many thanks for the exciting product and technical innovations David...while we have deposits on MoVI and BS4 there seem to be many reasons to seriously consider your gimbal. Can't wait to hear more! Best of luck...

I've been wondering for the last weeks how I should design the pricing structure of the gimbal. Since a lot of research and development, not only of ProLine and me, but also of MYT Works, some programers and several specialized lawyers, goes into it, we have to figure out the amount of rigs we can sell at different prices. Given this amount, we can distribute the research & development and other fixed costs. While of course calculating with some error margin, Luciano and I don't get any profit out of it, as long as we don't sell more than ~ 100 units, depending of course on how many rigs are being sold in which phase. What we get, of course, is an amazing system that we can later sell at a regular price, finally making some money out of it.

Also, we have to use 25% deposits which are not refundable until February 2014 to somehow limit our risks.

Anyway... what do you think about this structure:

Package price is 15.000USD. Included are:

* Gimbal
* Iso-elastic steadicam arm and vest
* MYT nodal head based remote control
* Custom AlexMos board
* Maximum camera weight 20lbs

Phase I - October 1st until October 31st: Group Buy :)

50% discount
Minimum are 60 orders
Deadline is October 31st
Shipment ~ January 10th

We will show in that time-frame footage which was shot with our prototypes, but will not show any photos of the gimbal or the control system itself, since we don't want that others copy our system before we even ship it.

November 1st until December 14th: pre-order I

25% discount (50 available)
We will test with some redusers in that time nearly finished prototypes and will publish photos and videos of the system
Shipment ~ February 1st

December 15th until shipment of the first finished rigs: pre-order II

15% discount
We will show in December the final version of the whole system. Also everyone can come over to ProLine in LA or to me in Germany (or to any of the other testers) to try it out.
Shipment ~ March 1st (depends on the amount of orders)

What do you think?

When do you think you will have some footage?
I am thinking about doing Phase 1 Group buy but would like to see some footage.
Would be nice to point out the problems others have that this takes care of, as well as what problems or learning curve this will have.

@ PC Greene: The arm is a different design, which is even easier to manufacture (also it will probably not allow the same weight range as the Raven), and we're ordering much more parts at the same time, getting a higher discount for the aluminum.

@ James Peach: First footage will be up in two or three weeks, hopefully earlier.

Since I got many mails asking about how a pan bar system works, here's a video from Service Vision's Scorpio system. Ours will exactly work like that, but be smaller (based on the MYT Works Satin nodal head)

Flash video? Can't see on iPad...direct link?

Thanks David

Ok that type of controller design looks AMAZe!!!

Now I'm trying to picture the setup exactly. So you would have a monitor setup to the pan bar system and control the gimbal moves much like in the video example, correct?

So the Proline Gimbal (or others as well) can be controlled with the controller? And the controller by itself will cost what in the group buy? Damn this could be sick setup!

You would probably rather use a smallHD AC7, instead of a huge monitor like in the video (the controller will be designed to take the AC7, but also other similar monitors). You could of course also run a cable to a large monitor.

And yes, that's what I was trying to explain for the last 11 pages :) A pan bar is a much more precise way to control you gimbal, rather than using those tiny joysticks on a RC remote.

Not sure about the final price of just the controller in the group buy, but roughly 2500USD.

Will the controller work with the besteady and Movi?

Haven't tried it yet, but it should work. Quite definitively with the BeSteady, since it's based on the new AlexMos board, same as my gimbal. The MoVI should also work with it, but I have to test it.

I've got the besteady on preorder - thinking about buying the controller or the controller and gimbal instead now!

Has there been anything new on this perhaps in another thread? I haven't been to the forum much lately, but I am following this group buy with keen interest and want to make sure I don't miss the announcement and demo footage when things go formal. Is this the thread where all updates will appear?

Any up dates?
You show Phase I Oct 1.
I would like to get in on
Phase I Group Buy.

Was hopping to see some video of it then decide.

Would like to know can the set up be used handheld with out the vest/arm

Sorry for the lack of updates. I've been quite busy over the last weeks, so haven't been much on reduser.

The web-shop is nearly finished, all the contract are getting finalized (I'm also becoming distributor for some companies), the MYT Works prototype hardware is nearly done, with the programmers now working on the software, and we're also doing good progress on the gimbal. I'll show videos of the working prototypes in late November.

The pre-order will start in late October (the delay comes from all the contract to write)

The MYT Works remote controller will ship in December or first week of January.

The Gimbal will also ship early January or latest last week of January.

@James Peach: You can use it without steadicam arm and vest

Write me, if you have any questions!

...and I can confirm that it will work with the MoVI and the BeSteady (and probably all other gimbals out there).

Cheers
David

Sorry for the silence... my webshop goes online on Monday. You will be able to pre-order the Satin pan bar remote. The prototype will be finished in late November and the first units will ship in early January.

The gimbal design isn't finished, so the final price isn't clear yet. I might set up a deposit option, but it wont be delivered before February 2014. There will hopefully be a presentation of all the items at Berlinale in mid February.

Can I get on a mailing list or something? Definitely want to look at the group buy when it happens.

David, would also like any updates on this via email if you decide on putting together a mailing list. Looks very interesting.
