All:

Keeping in mind RED's "anything can change at any time" approach, RED has stated that they don't envision selling Scarlet-Dragons to the general non-upgrade public. If that holds true, and I choose the upgrade sensor path for my Scarlet-X, I would obviously want to change my business insurance to get the appropriate coverage for my new SD.

Given the above, what would be the replacement value for my new Scarlet-Dragon?? Insurance only cares about replacement or "closest to" values, so if no SD is sold through RED, then how am I going to get the appropriate coverage with my insurance?

Is SD worth the same as an Epic-X? Maybe, but then you can argue is a totally different camera and the closest to an SD would be Epic-Dragon, but insurance companies are too smart for that so they will probably pay for a standard Scarlet-X as replacement, which will be not acceptable for anyone.

Any ideas? Am I totally wrong here?

I would insure the camera as what the Scarlet-X costs plus the price of Scarlet Dragon upgrade.

I thought the bill of sale would suffice in insuring an item?

And the fact that they would have to contact RED on replacement value at time of incident.

I just called my insurance and got the following answer:

If SD won't be sold by RED, one would need to insure to the Epic-D at the time of the upgrade.

So is this official? Its an upgrade only system? I imagine if this is true they will eventually discontinue the MX version and it will be a one tiered system...

Not that it affects me anymore, I already traded up to Epic anyway, but it'll be kind of cool to have an exclusive Scarlet....

Its the same tax issues most of us Canadians will have once we upgrade.

I'm hearing customs will want to charge for the full amount of the unit as oppose to the upgrade price.

I will fight hard to not have that happen.

We get taxed enough up here :P

That's the RED stand at the moment. But like I said, it might change at any given time. However, I think from a business model perspective, RED will ride the MX-to-Dragon upgrade/trade-ins until Dragon become the norm, then slowly EOL MX, although considering RED still supports RED ONE it will be years.

I hope the Scarlet upgrade lasts for awhile.

I had to start another paper route to save up for my EPIC upgrade :)
