  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New "inexpensive" PL primes from Sony !?

Brian

What kind of deal are they offering? I can't find any info on their site.

Thanks

I would think that over time they would begin to make a name for themselves.

For people like me, who don't plan to rent them, they might be just the ticket. I'm still think I'm going to hold off until the new Xenons are out though.

The glass seems nice (as did the glass in the original three Sony primes). What these lenses really need though, is a name. If people don't have a name to refer to them by, how the heck is any kind of word meant to spread as to their qualities and capabilities?

I completely agree. I had a chance to test them briefly and they're great lenses for the price. I think they have lots of potential. Sony just needs to shake the stigma of the V1 set and giving them a kick-ass name might be the way to do that.

The name doesn't seem to be catching on with anyone talking about the lenses, but Sony is using the CineAlta name for this set.

They should call them Sony Standard Primes or something similar. Standard Primes sound familiar to most filmmakers. Who the hell says, "I'm looking to rent those new Sony CineAlta primes."? I've never even heard people refer to the CineAlta cameras by the CineAlta term, rather the model designation...

Troy they also mention they can do low rates on longer leases, IE 60 months even! That is a great way to finance some glass! Between this or the Canon lease deal I am having a tough time not jumping on one of these sets right now! My friends all think I have a lens problem...they might be right lol!

Yeah, the fact that nobody wants to use that name for the lenses should be a signal to their marketing department.

Sony Standard Speeds has a nice ring to it...

I'd be curious to know id these cover Dragon... any one have access to Dragon and these Sony lenses?

I shoot mostly on stills glass (Zeiss ZE). I'm pretty happy in super 35 land. Thinking very hard about jumping on these. 240 degree rotation, metal housing. Some of the tests I've seen look good.... But in Perth impossible to get a hold of a pair to try out. I don't think these would be a rental item, people want cooke and Zeiss and can hire those locally. But for our business these would do the job for us (prime wise) for years to come (I think).

Dean,
Try Videocraft or Lemac Melbourne,Sydney.....but Sony Lenses are HEAVY and B I G ! ;-)
Think about future next 5 years, think Full Frame. Some people here started collecting Medium Lenses, i think cheap Samyang or Zeiss CP2 or Schneider is the way to go...
