  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

My feature Film SIDDHARTH will premiere in Venice!!!

Ha ha. That scene at night was my one of my least favourite in the film. It's definitely worth watching the film from the beginning or else the ending won't work.

Excellent news, Bob! Congrats.

...In a related note, Amal was on TV last week. I caught it half-way through (Roshan Seth searching through a desk at night), so I decided not to watch it for fear of spoiling the ending (its a pet peeve of mine not starting from the beginning).

Hey folks. Just wanted to update this thread with news that Siddharth will have it's Canadian premiere after Venice in Toronto at TIFF!

I hope to see some of you movie goers in Italy or at the Toronto screening.

Peace out!

Congratulation Bob.your shots are nice.

Thanks

Sorry if I'm spoiling it, but:

"Canadian filmmaker Richie Mehta ably follows 2008’s debut
Amal with the moving, beautifully lensed Siddarth, about an impoverished Delhi family whose 12-year-old son disappears after his father, Mahendra (Rajesh Tailang, brilliant), reluctantly sends him away to work in a factory."

"...with the moving, beautifully lensed Siddarth, about..."

"... BEAUTIFULLY LENSED*..."

Nothing else in that group got rated higher... Amazing, Bob!

Thanks Mike. I was surprised they highlighted the cinematography!

Congrats Bob for the nice review. Shame I'm shooting next days and I will not go to Venice festival. I would have been curious to see the movie and meet you. Have fun in Venice.

NOW Toronto Review of Siddharth:

REVIEW BY RADHEYAN SIMONPILLAI NOW RATING: NNNN
Richie Mehta is quickly becoming a premier voice in Indian cinema despite the fact that he's from Canada. His sophomore feature about a man's desperate search for his missing son is an assured and harrowing look at the poverty and desperation in India's slums that makes tragedy so common.

In a performance both discreet and wrenching, Tailang plays Mahendra, a chain-wallah (he fixes zippers) who sends 12-year-old Siddarth to work out of town to help support the family. When Siddarth fails to return home, matters both trivial and critical frustrate Mahendra's scrupulous pursuit. He has barely enough money for the trip and doesn't even have a photo of his son to aid his investigation. A sociopolitical critique that doesn't interfere with the intimate story being told, Siddarth could be Canada's next foreign-language Oscar nominee.

Fucking awesome Bob! I really love this and want to see the full feature.. Please keep us updated!!!!!!!!

You have no idea how much I wish I were in Palm Springs right now (to see Siddharth, sure, but also because it's -15c this week). Can't wait to watch all of this Bob!

One of the most original story lines I've seen, very nice color grading too.

So I will say upfront that I didn't shoot this film on RED. I was however shooting this film in November of 2011 when I placed my order for one :)

In any case, I'm super excited to announce that it will have it's world premiere inVenicethis year. The entire film was shot in Delhi and Mumbai in 23 days.

We have started a Facebook page for the film here.
