  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Dragon vs. 65mm film...

Why just 76 shots and not the entire movie? Red relies on big names using the brand... nothing wrong with that. But there are plenty of big name folks who wouldn't go near MX even if they were paid for it.

I'm sorry, but this smacks of trolling, and I'm not digging this. We're on the eve of DRAGON being launched, and your just being a sour puss. I'm not into it.

Cameras are like a religion - its hard for everyone to agree. I'm not sure what your point is about MX, but I can name just as many people that won't touch Alexa. Difference is, the Alexa costs $60k, whereas a Scarlet (or a BT Red One) has put the power of Hollywood into so many people's hands. That democratization of the big screen, not just sensors and resolution, is what has won RED so many followers. Never forget that.

too much marketing hype going on. I think Dragon specs sound very great but I'd love to see the pictures and footages from Dragon sensor... picture woth more than thousand words

Exactly, I mean who in their right mind is going to take the word of Darius Wolski, Inez and Vinoodh, Chris Probst, Peter Jackson + Andrew Lesnie, , Michael Bay and Amir and Peter Collister?

Roger, your 'View Forum Posts' list doesn't read like constructive contribution. There's a big space between antipathy and fandom; plenty of intelligent posters here manage to play in that zone.

Right on John,

unfortunately there are a few of such posters, as I don't surely consider them to be a Reduser.

And one can only ignore them to a point, then they become a pain in the rear and must be (edit) "DEALT" with as to not allow them to disrupt and otherwise GREAT Community!!

This is what I call Fanboy reaction.

At first I thought "That's a little harsh." But after thinking about it... '-)

I know, right?

long time ago we've seen detailed analysis comparison of resolution and dynamic range difference between a R1 and 35mm..
is there any intent to make a similar comparison with dragon and 65mm film? you know, sometimes an image replaces a thousand words :-)

Again...

You guys should "read" this image. It says a hell of a lot when paired against Christopher's description of the scene.

What's not to get? I'm confused. Seems there's a whole lot of jibber jabber -- it seems we're seeing just as much about the people behind the cams, as we are about the cameras themselves with these posts. Tuning out.

BTW, Ketch was trying to say, "Must be DEALT with"... his English is funny sometimes. He wasn't wishing DEATH upon the naysayers who will soon be eating their words.

I'm not so sure he meant dealt... Freudian slip?
'-)

i think Ketch really meant death wish upon users who hes does not consider "Red user" member. His english is not bad at all, perhaps he posted a lenghthy post how he loves Reduser so much ;)

Heh, heh, Jack, as a longish-time member of this forum, I'm sure you recognize Ketch as solid backer of RED Digital Cinema products. I suspect you also have come to know him as a gentleman and gentle fellow.

I was just making a joke when I suggested he meant death instead of dealt, and I'm guessing you recognize that as well.

I'm just pointing this out to those who might read our posts and take them in a spirit other than how they were meant, even though we punctuated our posts with smileys. '-)

Ha HA...

I absolutely do love this community as I have also written in a new Thread about it but I would never be so harsh on any one, and English is my fourth language, even so I have been speaking it for 24 years now, my Brain simply refuses to learn certain words which are similar to others, this is a serious condition actually, I do the same with my visual cortex were I confuse people that have similarities yet are world apart in how they look when looked at side by side but if I see them individually Ill confuse one for the other, and this goes both for Male Actor as well as Female actresses... ;)

Then I also tend to always write certain words wrongly, such as "on" instead of "no" "ot" instead of "to" "form" instead of "from" and so on... And even so I always read back before posting, or almost always, at times I skip them anyways, just don't see them, my Brain is funny that way... ;)

And yes, I absolutely would never wish anything BAD to any one, not even to my worst enemy... So I most definitely would have never written such a word as "Death" but absolutely meant to write "Dealt"!!

BTW: Thanks Andy for thinking positively about me, and yes nay sayers will soon eat up their own words... ;)

And thanks Elsie for the very kind words too... ;)

LOL Funny Ketch!!! I am originally from Venezuela... English is my 2nd language. Although I am an american Citizen, my english gets funny sometimes...my friends joke and make fun out of my accent. I sometimes I pronounce things wrong...writing wrong is a common mistake so I hear ya! Grammar correction is my best friends....yeah! we are on the same boat. LOL

Some times it is funny indeed, others... Not so much... ;) But with me Alain, is not just a matter of writing it wrong, it is a matter of just missing the wrong spelled words all together, and or the Auto corrected words, which of course they were auto corrected to something entirely different then the originally intended word, and or also simply also a fact of writing too fast, were my fingers go faster then my eyes can follow... ;)

Jack? I told you he meant "dealt"

I sure did Andy... ;)

OK. This is the final frontier.

The RED Dragon sensor needs to be directly compared to 65mm film.

The Dragon has more resolution than 65mm film when scanned at 4K.

The Dragon has more dynamic range than film... by a lot. 65mm film has about 14.5 stops. The Dragon has an easy 16 stops... without sweating.

The EPIC Dragon will shoot nearly 100fps. 65mm film cameras... not so much.

Cost to shoot the RED Dragon vs. 65mm film... ridiculously not close.

Dragon should never be compared to 35mm film. It should only be spoken in reference to 65mm film from here on out.

So you own an EPIC? You upgrade.

Have a nice day....

Jim

Jim.... when you wrote this, I doubted you, after the first 15minutes of testing the Dragon today.. FUCK ME ! Your dead right !
